Same bunch of players to have failed for England before

Honestly can't believe Carrick Johnson Crouch and Richards arnt in for Henderson Downing Carroll and Johnson. Its absurd.

England doesn't have much, but to overlook that talent for what they have instead they deserve to lose.

I'm still annoyed Osman is not in the squad.

Or Joe Cole, who is by all accounts playing very well in France.

Hmmm I wouldn't say very well mate. Check his stats put.

Only done 90 minutes 3-4 times, end of the season only coming off the bench.

Pretty average.

Don't get me wrong, still better than Downing!!

Looking closely at that, what Hodgeson has done is choose 4 Liverpool players over 1 Man Utd, 2 Man City and 1, erm, Stoke player.

Stupid. Plain as the day is long (in summer).

Jeez forgot about Joe Cole. It gets even more baffling that Downing is in. I've hated him for years, way before he joined the ****e.

I remember yer mar saying "Ohh yes, more, more, now hit me" but sometimes you just shouldn't listen to everything people say.

Seriously though I know what you're on about, but maybe other nations do the same? I've never heard Dutch commentators talking about their players, German commentators talking about theirs and so on. I reckon they do something similar. It's probably just a natural extension of national pride.
For years (before their current dominance) Spanish commentators have been moaning their bad luck and claiming that the Spanish team were 'technically superior' to virtually everyone.

To be fair they were!

Nah, it's as I suspected really. It's natural for commentators to be biased towards their own nationality and their audience's nationality especially.

For the record. Starting line up at the first game in 2010

Green, Johnson, Terry, King, Cole, Lennon, Lampard, Gerrard, Milner, Heskey, Rooney.

Starting line up first game 2012.

Hart, Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Cole, Milner, Gerrard, Parker, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Young, Welbeck

5 players are the same, 6 are different.

HART Green Buckland
BAINES COLE JAGIELKA Johnson JONES LESCOTT Terry Kelly
GERRARD WALCOTT Henderson YOUNG Milner PARKER Downing OX-CH
Carroll ROONEY Defoe Welbeck

12 worthy (or in some cases just about worthy) of their place in the squad - those in capitals. Of the rest:

Green Buckland
Johnson Terry Kelly
Henderson Milner Downing
Carroll Defoe Welbeck

Most of these are - hopefully - on the bench. Buckland might be one for the future, Johnson & Kelly (right backs at the same club with decidedly average defending ability) are gash but who is obviously better? Perhaps that young lad at Spurs - Walker. For CH we'll miss a whole host of injured or not selected options - Terry is nothing special but he's 100% effort at least. Milner is a decent defensive midfielder - nothing else. We're missing the likes of Barry, Rodwell, Lampard etc. Up front - jeez I despair with the lack of options.

Hopefully - from what we have (left) he'll pick something like

HART
JONES JAGIELKA LESCOTT COLE
WALCOTT GERRARD PARKER OX-CH
ROONEY YOUNG

With Carroll replacing Rooney for the first 2 games. No doubt we'll have Johnson & Terry in there instead of Jones/Jags plus Milner instead of one of the mid 4. You can't blame Roy for the lack of options right now. I'm not confident.
