The system with the players he had available did not work in the first half, he had to change the system or personnel...
It was a poor performance al round tbh...
There's any number of things he could have done without reverting to like for like. For a start he could have pushed our 2 wideman up along side Tosun rather than covering their full backs. That in itself would have given our midfielders more options when we have the ball and also make their 2 WBs (Southamptons best players by the way) think twice about bombing forward. There is an argument to say we should even have started this way given that we were at home, in 8th place and against a team facing relelgation with 2 wins in 22.

Alternatively, when we took Bolasie off we could have put Niasse on, played 2 up front with Vlasic in behind where I think he is better suited anyway, with width coming from the full backs. We still have 3 defensively minded CMs on the pitch to provide cover.

No. We dont have a manager capable of making those decisions, or wont make them because he is too defensive.

It would be an absolute moral boost if, just a few minutes after the final whistle of the season, the club announced the departure of BFS and all of his back room staff.

Then two or three days later the club announced the arrival of his successor.

That would a superb statement of intent and get the fans back on side.

Is it too much to ask?
Probably

Last paragraph of SA programme notes yesterday,
" It is with collective pride that we go into today's final home game of the season.
I wish you all a great summer and we will be better and stronger next season

Enjoy the game.

He is who he is and has been for decades. No point asking him to change.
Major blame lies with the person who hired him in panic and is showing nothing to indicate any football nous I fear.
So are you saying that because he is what he is he shouldnt get any criticism

Not had to go to City (A), Chelsea (A), United (A) Spurs (A) for big pumpings either. He's had a really favourable run of fixtures and that GD shows that he hasn't delivered his basic MO which is - defend better.

43 goals scored in 37 games. Rough viewing.

He did go to Spurs away.

And the GD got a doing

We were weak in midfield & in attack, key players missing & lack of goal threat meant we were going to find it hard to create chances...

We need to strengthen all round bringing in the minimum of 5 players minimum in the summer...

Stop making excuses, we were playing Southampton and they played us off the park.

Absolute and utter wham...Do you go the game?Do you endure...now thats a word endure...his utter banal clueless tactical nous...If you seriously think this utter chancer can be given more time then you are border line insane...all about opinions innit....
Bit unfair mate. Everyones entitled to an opinion and if it doesn't agree with yours it just means that he has different ambitions for the club and is happy or prepared to accept lower standards than the rest of us.

Entertainment?

Thats the question i dont think fans know what they really want. Or what constitutes entertainment.

To be honest i think he deserves the opportunity to develop a team in the summer, im not a particular advocate of his, but i have a philosophy on management and i believe a club should back a manager once appointed. I think he is a good recruiter and believe the club needs consistency and stability in the season ahead all the afore mentioned aspects are things we need in the immediate future.

I actually believe he listens to fans and tries to accommodate, look at Vlasic playing last week and Klassen yesterday, there are times i believe he has tried to expansively and we got tonked as well. Can he vary the style and make it more entertaining i think he can.

Arsenal are a good point to bring up as are Chelsea, they will both be recruiting this summer and will have a better pick in the market then us, its a bad time to be recruiting a manager in my opinion.

I think judgments change next season really its about being compeititive for the CL and a crack at trophies, this season was a write off before he came to be honest. That can only be underwritten by good prep, stability and good recruitment a change of manager and a new regime doesnt lend itsself to that in my opinion.

Yes, everyone wants to win league with their club, the reality is Everton are the ugly mate in gang of six clubs, we think we should be going with the hottest thing is place, but ultimately we have limits and arent the most attractive thing in the bar, The sooner we accept our relative position the sooner we can work to incrementally improve it. That will be process rather then a event.

Fans are fickle and they dont know what they want, in recent years we have hero worshiped both Martinez and Koeman, ultimately we have vilified them. Some years they want style of play and entertainment (Martinez), other times they want results and being competitive (Koeman). Ultimately its very impulsive and reactionary and wishy washy, i dont believe its whats best for Everton and i think the board is remiss on putting to much stock in fan reaction, of course its important, but ultimately if the tail is wagging the dog its doomed to failure, as we have seen in the last three years.

You are entitled to your opinion I suppose but boy, you are wrong on so many levels......

The attitude of these "Better the Devil you know" characters is totally against the ethos of what Everton stands for. Say nothing for this particular manager who has been sacked more times than Frank Spencer!

I am not going to go through his litany of faults, many on here have covered them, but if you think he listens to the fans your arguments start to lose credibility right there.

I don't think anyone hero worshipped Martinez or Koeman, their faults were apparent early on, and to suggest that supporters don't know what they want is a facile statement. As an Everton fan of 50 years I will tell what I want and expect.

I want the club to appoint a youngish hungry passionate European manager with drive and ambition who sets up teams to play fast paced, passing, attacking football. That should be the clubs strategy moving forward whoever the manager is and it should determine the type of players we sign. We know it's not an exact science so if one particular manager turns out to be a disaster after a few months we can get rid and bring in another knowing we have the players in place.

That’s why I said it’s all about opinions mate.... suns shining ...Everton can be locked away till August...thankfully
