Seeing as Burnley humbled us at home, I guess going to their place will amount to an expected defeat, so might as well pack the midfield and hope we don't do too much damage to our goal difference. Schneiderlin - Beningime - Gueye in central midfield, Sigurdsson and Walcott tasked with doubling up as wing backs ahead of our full backs Martina and Kenny, DCL up front to head the ball on to himself. Captains Williams and Jagielka manning the defence. 4:0 Burnley.

The press articles do seem to be the writing on the wall for Sam.

I share the concerns about Moshiri's methodology in appointing managers but I guess we can only hope he strikes gold next time.

I still think it will be Silva and if so, I'll give my support as always. I think we represent the best Silva can do at this point whereas I think Fonseca will have more suitors.

If Sam is off then it should be settled and announced asap. They have had months to prepare for this and no reason nor excuse to have the replacement installed almost simultaneously.

If that's the case I assume things would happen either as soon as we are officially safe or after the final game. I don't mind which, we just have no time at all to waste particularly with this being World Cup year.

I would not be an advocate for Silva at all but if Moshiri has decided he will be appointing him in the summer then I can see absolutely no reason for not ditching Sam right now and fetching Silva in right away.

At least it would inject a bit of interest into what remains of a season which had already fizzled out.

The only thing is the wheels have come off at Burnley since then so it should not be as daunting a task as it would have been in the autumn.

On the other hand.....if a team is on a long winless run, what better opponent to face this weekend

Yep. See Troy Deeney. See most other players who haven't scored in 4 seasons before netting a winning goal against us, or teams on the back of a 62 game run of games without a win coming to Goodison and taking the points. I fully expect Burnley to get the points on Saturday, I don't even think it'll be close.

The only thing is Khal, the wheels, the doors, the bonnet, the boot, and the engine have all come of us, we're actually just a chassis!

He'll be after a nil nil on Saturday to take us one point closer to 'safety'. In his mind, he'll think getting a point there and at least 4 points from remaining homes fixtures against Brighton, Newcastle, Southampton will be enough to get us safe and have the board think he's the man to take us forwards. Scary really, because it looks like we have no fight in us, will get smashed all over the park by City and Liverpool at Goodison and will fail to take more than one or two points from our remaining away games. So these home games really are must-win.

I see a lot of merit in that too. Just think internally it wouldn't gain much favour.

We can only speculate. If it is to be Silva and they have decided that already then maybe he prefers to come in for the start of a new season and not straight into this mess.

My biggest concern is that they will want Fonseca, but that he will take weeks to assess his options and we are appointing well into June or later as with Koeman. In that scenario do they go with a maybe from Fonseca over a yes from Silva? Thats very difficult and I would not like to be in Moshiri's shoes.

They really need right now to be in talks and ready to make an appointment in May, if they intend to change things at all.

Off topic, and don't know if it's already been posted up, but...

Another concern for me is the World Cup.

That always precipitates a massive game of managerial chairs so any potential targets might want to see what happens after that.

Plus some major clubs are going to be headhunting a honcho come summer.

Real Madrid, Chelsea......probably Arsenal as well.

Spurs even, if Poch becomes a target for Real.
