New Cold War, really who cares. Todays Russia is not the USSR of yesterday. Russia, with all it's oil and gas, vast quantities of minerals etc, is slowly going bankrupt. So let's wheel out Gorby to frighten everyone. Sorry Ruskies but you have well overplayed your hand, caused no end of trouble for Ukraine, yet the financial power of the west is still pushing you to the brink. No one is bothered about you anymore, you're just another rogue state..............

Some respected expert on all things Russia/Europe reckons there will be a major conflict in Europe by the the end of the decade. Involving Russia.

Cant remember who though.

What is going on with Russia is the biggest failure of European diplomacy since 1938, and it benefits noone on this side of the Atlantic. The sole aim of EU foriegn policy should be to try and persuade them to join, not to argue the toss with the Russian leadership.

They tried to play the old USSR world power play. It doesn't work anymore, they just aren't that powerful. They should as you say be included and not excluded. The problem is that Russia sees itself as the equivalent of the USA or the EU, when in reality it's the equivalent of France, Germany or the UK. Time to get real Mr Putin, no one is unduly bothered ...

I don't see it that way. He's playing up as the big bad bear but sending over 50 year old bombers just doesn't cut any ice these days. Militarily they are nothing much, financially they are a shambles. They are just not that frightening any more........

He just taking the piss essentially because he knows all the western leaders are too weak to do anything
