Good wins for St Helens, Widnes and Wigan in the opening round of fixtures and a narrow defeat for Warrington against the Champions.

Saints, in particular, looked impressive with Ben Barba showing his world class talents. Very early days yet but Saints could well be the team to beat this season, and Castleford, on Friday, showed plenty of their form from their embarrassing Grand Final performance. Maybe they'll be one season wonders like many said they could well be?

I think though Cas will be thereabouts but Leeds, Wigan and St Helens being the main threats when the silverware is handed out. Warrington are under a new coach but I just can't see this year being their year again though and Widnes will be happy just to dodge the middles 8s.

As much as I don't like to say it, but Hull FC will do well again this season and will be hard to beat. My team Hull KR will bump along the bottom and destined for another middle 8's adventure. Looking forward to seeing Saints play some better rugby this season and get back to what they do best, play adventurously. Leeds looked efficient last Thursday and took their chances but Warrington should do better than last season. The Hull FC/Wigan games in Australia will be interesting and there are a good few going over for the trip.

Widnes will struggle. If we get few injuries to key players we will be doomed. Expect us to finish 11th or 12th this season. We have a young squad and some very exciting youngsters in the first team but our halfbacks are weak.

Fancy a Saints vs Wigan final.

Partied a little too hard after the grand final win unfortunately. As well as the brilliance with the ball his organisation from fullback is second to none, he's always talking and telling the defence where to be etc.

Reminds me of Minnichello when he was at the Roosters. He could read where the ball was going before it was kicked. He will be a quality signing for Saints. Probably the best Aussie to come in his prime since Jamie Lyon.
