Player Valuation: £60m
The former Great Britain rugby league player Terry Newton has been found dead at a house in Greater Manchester.
The 31-year-old is understood to have been found hanged at a house in Orrell, near Wigan, on Sunday afternoon.
In February, the hooker was given a two-year suspension by the UK Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for a human growth hormone (HGH).
The former Leeds, Wigan and Bradford player then had his playing contract cancelled by Wakefield.
"Shortly after 2pm on Sunday 26 September 2010, police were called to a house on Harswell Close in Orrell, Wigan, following a report of concern for welfare," a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said.
"Officers went to the address and found the body of a 31-year-old man.
"Inquiries have been launched, but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death."
Hopes of return Newton tested positive for the banned substance on 24 November 2009, after being asked to provide a blood sample during pre-season training with Wakefield.
He was believed to be one of the first athletes in the world to test positive for HGH.
In June, he spoke to BBC Radio 5 live about his hopes to return to the game after his ban, which he hoped to get reduced by the agency.

We are deeply shocked and saddened by the news of Terry's untimely death”
End Quote Richard Lewis RFL chairman
"Initially it didn't bother me that I wasn't playing rugby but now watching games it is starting to sink in," he said.
"I've made one of the biggest mistakes of my life and I know it is something I will regret for the rest of my life."
Newton made 15 international appearances for Great Britain in a career spanning all 15 seasons of the Super League.
The Rugby Football League (RFL) has issued a statement expressing its sadness at Newton's death.
"We are deeply shocked and saddened by the news of Terry's untimely death," RFL chairman Richard Lewis said.
"This is a personal tragedy and our thoughts are with Terry's partner, his children and his family at this terrible time."
Tributes have already started appearing on a page set up in his memory on the social networking website, Facebook.

Terrible this.......

Just seen this on the BBC site. Shocked to say the least. Saw him on Superleagues Supermen a few weeks back and he didn't sound all that good but you never expect this. Not good at all.

Of course we don't know the ins and outs, but suicide is the cowards way out and I will always maintain that. I feel no sympathy for people who leave behind a lifetime of misery for their family.

Did a job last year in the house directly behind his in Orrell (another ex-players house), I know he has a young child so the thoughts are with her, I know people who have done the same thing and I felt angry with them for being so selfish, but I have come to the conclusion that a 'switch' gets flicked in the brain and there's no going back, because if their kids entered their mind for 1 second then they wouldn't do it.
I was saying this to a mate who has been through the mill the last few years (all his fault like) and he admitted that he had tried himself, I was concerned that he may do it and he said that as soon as he thought of his kids then he couldn't go through with it.

I know people who have attempted it numerous times and I've been with the people who have had to suffer, so switch flicked or not, there is always help available.

As opposed to someone suffering from severe depression who faces a lifetime of misery?

Its easy to say there is help available and they have other choices, i understand that but it doesn't work like that with depression.

And if suicide is selfish is a family rather have a loved one living a life of misery alive than ending that misery by killing themselves when in their minds it IS the only option selfish as well?

And anyway, i hate to quote Phoebe from friends but there bis no such thing as an unselfish act so yeah it does annoy me when people just call suicide selfish without looking at it from both sides.

Well I do look at it from both sides mate. I have experienced both sides, and there is always help available.

But its the feeling of helplessness which often plays such a big part in suicide cases.

Not because the help isn't there, but because the person feels beyond help.

Its obviously not as simple of saying someone feeling suicidal can just walk into a clinic and be instantly helped and cured, would be good if it was.

Even if they do seek and help sometimes it isn't enough, cause like i say it isn't as simple as saying get help and everything will be fine.

Not saying it is, but it's as simple as jumping off the cliff or not. It's a choice, and life is full of choices. If it's a choice to pull the trigger, then there is a choice to not.

Sorry mate but it is not that simple whatsoever.

Its what makes them pull the trigger and why, every choice we make in life is never after a balanced well thought out clear conscioused decision whilst knowing the full implications and consequences of that decision.

No once chooses to suffer from depression and to become suicidal.

No but they have choices to seek help or shoot themself.

True. But as i said its not that simple as an either/or situation.

If you are 100% convinced in your own mind that no one can help you and that pulling the trigger is the only option than there is no choice is there?

Edit to clatify that while from the outside looking in they might have choices, from the inside looking out is doesn't look that way.
