okay, I've always been curious. How do you guys (people from England/Great Britain) view the royal family? Are they more or less "celebrities" now? Do you consider the Queen's role in your government as legitimate or more as a custom?

and finally, who would you like to see as the Queen's successor? (and assuming it becomes "King Charles" or "King William"... does that change your anthem to "God save the King"?)

I can really only see them as a boost for the U.K. tourism. But there are many who will have nothing said against them. Yes and the anthem would change.

In modern society there is no real place for the feudal system of a monarchy. I feel it is only useful for tourism and promoting Great Britain abroad. The younger royals have tarnished the name of the royal family, with their behaviour, in the eyes of Britons and those abroad alike. I can see more calls for the abolition of the monarchy, which, in my opinion not a good thing, may very well lead to a republic.
I feel this is all down to the younger royals and their advisors. I see William and Harry trying to take on their mothers work for charities but feel this may well be too little too late.

The Royals are tourist attractions now. And Lizzy is the head of the Commonwealth. Which really doesn't mean anything these days (I know it does actually mean something, so don't jump on me!!!)

Not a royalist at all but can see the benefits of having the royal family for tourism and as a figure head of state.

Most mature people are quite protective and respectful of the Royal family, especially where foreigners are concerned.
To call them celebrities is quite insulting to be fair mate. The Queen is not just the Queen of England, but some 25 or more countries, and a more tactful phrase might be the use of the word 'ceremonial'. :)
The answers to your questions will tend to vary greatly depending upon how educated the recipient of your questions are, and to debate the issue, should that be your intention, certainly requires more of a rounded knowledge than your average neanderthal football thug possesses.:P
DaveK probably gave you the most useful answer if truth be told.

You're telling an American to be respectful to the Queen? Come on lid.

And that thing about education affecting the response, explain por favor (in simple words please).

For the record, no one needs to bow down to her of any of them. And only posh/southern people like them.
