Ross Barkley

Poorly worded and actually offensive due to them admitting that if Ross's grandfather wasn't Nigerian then the basis of the article is alright - Come on, that isn't journalism but a personal attack from a newspaper who should know better.
Exactly right.

It's incredibly offensive. What it says to me also is this:

"We all know that black people bear a passing resemblance to gorilla's and that's used against them to degrade them...so if we'd known he was mixed race then we wouldn't have said he looks like a gorilla".

It's the most cack handed apology ever...and probably they know it too and are laughing their bollocks about it - the S*n and Mckenzie are having a giggle right now about adding more insult to injury.

I don't really understand why he hasn't been offered a contract yet? Seems a bit weird to have not even put something on the table for him considering all the paper talk.
IMO: all down to the Lukaku business. If Lukaku leaves Barkley stays.

Politically it would look abysmal for Everton to lose their three jewels in the crown, as portrayed and accepted more widely, in just 12 months - Stones, Lukaku, Barkley.

If Lukaku stays, on the other hand, I can see Barkley getting sold on.

This is NOT a regime that will be focussing a lot of cash on the squad. A lot of it will come from player sales.

Where does this confidence come from? The sale of Stones?

Smallest net spend we've had in three seasons came under Moshiri.

Imo, Lukaku's sale cash will be the biggest part of the transfer budget this summer if it happens; if that doesn't happen then about £30M will be generated via the sale of Barkley and that will be augmented with a certain amount of cash.

I'll be highly surprised if the net spend of a couple of seasons back of £33M will be beaten in the next couple of seasons. The stadium will be trundled out as a reminder to fans that the club have other priorities.

We will spend significantly more net than that Dave, without the sale of Barkley or Lukaku, but we will still raise 50m from other sales.

..I'd be amazed if there wasn't a contract offer on the table for Barkley. Every indication from the club is that the ball is now in the players court and if he doesn't sign he'll be sold.

Completely disagree!!
The 'smallest' net spend was down to the sale of Stones, who wanted to leave (12 months earlier) so this wasn't what the club wanted or needed to generate funds.
I believe we will retain Barkley and Lukaku next season as well as a minimum net spend of 40-50m without the funds from the deadwood being offset against this figure.
If the club needed to generate funds for players by selling our best players they wouldn't of put 100m price on Lukaku!! Thats basically telling everyone he's not for sale don't bother bidding!

Maybe. But net spend will be low.

Not the revolution first promised of at least heavily argued to be the case this time last year.

That's just negotiation tactics. They know he's leaving, they reasonably want to maximise the fee.

They know he WANTS to leave!
But 2 Years remaining on his contract if the club want him to stay then he stays!
Dont think it's as simple as that.

1/ you have an demotivated, unhappy player in a position crucial to us.
2/ the value of Lukaku diminishes if he's allowed to go into the last 12 months of his current contract.

He and his agent hold all the cards.

Or we could just keep them both make more signings make top 4 next year , and neither will want to leave its crunch time!

How could you possibly know this. That's right, you don't. It's all based on conjecture, whereas all of the stories coming from the media and the club itself are claiming we will be busy and spending big.

If we sell Lukaku - and it is an 'if', we will still need a proven forward as well as everyone else we have our eyes on. IN MY OPINION we will spend, and we will spend big.

We know this because we are Everton, if we spend big we sell even bigger. This so far hasn't changed, and until that happens we will always believe we are going to lose our best players. This doesn't mean we hope and pray for the contrary.
