Not by my definition, by actual definition. Of course Obama is mixed race.

There is no actual, commonly accepted definition of race, though. I would say though that the nature of MacKenzie's attack on him is clearly racist because of the language used, which someone who has spent fifty years in an industry centered on the written / printed word would absolutely know.

You seriously don't think it does?
Calling a black person a gorilla is racist. Comparing a quarter-black person to a gorilla by saying they are both strong but vacant-looking is not racist. It's a nasty character assassination, but there's no explicit racial connotation in the article. Unless you want to find one, of course.

The point you are missing is that he compares him to a gorilla, something which is almost invariably reserved for insults aimed at black people.

Question for you mate: if you weren't an Evertonian and knew nothing of Barkley would you immediately think "mixed race".

Along with most other people I doubt it.

Soft arse McKenzie has walked onto a punch with this without realising it.

No but as a journalist I'd make sure I checked people weren't of African descent before calling them apes. If I didn't or got it wrong id expect a backlash. Or I just wouldn't call people apes, especially not ones who've been cheap shotted by some scrote.

I dont spend my looking for faux racist attacks or references.

But sorry, it was 100% obvious what that sewer dwelling rat was getting at.

He's a professional he and the entire editorial team who read it knew what that were saying and it's despicable, unpleasant at best and possibly criminal at worst but what's not doubt in doubt is the rat knew what he was saying .
