Ross Barkley

Yup, to compare a Black/mixed-race player like Ross to a gorilla is obviously a race-based attack.

Is it though?

I find it hard to believe that even an idiot like McKenzie would purposely launch an online racial attack on a top flight player, especially one from Liverpool with everything else attached to that.

I reckon he is more having a go at the perceived notion that Barkley is a bit thick (no idea where that comes from either, he is no less eloquent etc than 90% of footballers)

McKenzie is guilty of being a bit thick himself here. He has put zero thought into it for a bit of a laugh/"bantz" with his idiot readership.

So although I wont be jumping on this racism bandwagon, as I said I will be more than happy to see him get some flack just for being a knobhead in general. If thats what it takes for him to get some much deserved vilification then so be it.

No offence lads but i think you're clutching at straws at it being racist. It's not common knowledge that Barkleys dad was mixed race and grandparent Nigerian. You only have to look at the reaction to this story from other fans... tons of comments saying they had no idea barkley had mixed race background. Lots of comments slagging off mckenzie and rightly so but i doubt there was racially motivated intent behind it, more anti scouse sentiment which is basically just as bad.

I think we can all agree that McKenzie is a monumental bellend that appears to show little remorse for his previous actions. Joe Anderson does seem a bit of an attention whore sometimes but if reporting McKenzie gets that scumbag some grief then I'm all for it.

I hope Barkley single handedly dismantles Burnley tomorrow.

Gorilla and monkey chants in general are widely used as cheap forms of racism, particularly in sport where we've seen if for years.

The imagery of a donkey or ass would be a lot more appropriate if McKenzie was directing it at a perceived lack of intellect in Barkley.

McKenzie knew what he was doing and is being rightly called out on it.

So exactly when were these earth shattering performances since the turn of the year,im struggling a bit!where was he before Xmas?
Why don't any of the coaches with England rate him or have they got their own agendas as well!
Where in this thread, or any other for that matter, have I referred to Barkley's earth shattering performances?. You won't find anything.

For the record, I do think that Barkley has had half a dozen good/very good performances since the turn of the year and the rest, with the exception of the derby, have been more than acceptable too. This is backed up by our fellow GOT members. In the 12 MOM threads I have located in 2017 he has won 4, come second in 4 and third in a further 2. They show that GOT members, which I take to be big enough to represent a cross section of Everton fans in general, clearly believe that Barkley has been our most consistent performer this calendar year.

If you have a different view that's fine. I just happen to disagree with you.

As regards before Xmas, I agree that his form was very inconsistent then. But if I were to go back through the MOM threads for earlier in the season I bet I would find another few wins for Ross. The fact is Barkley was out of condition when Koeman came and also his confidence was shot after the summer with the national team and his form at the end of last season. RK has worked on him both physically and mentally and we're now seeing, imo, a much more rounded and consistent performer.

As regards England, I'm not saying he has an agenda but yes, I do believe Southgate doesn't trust Barkley for whatever reason. Early on in the season he probably didn't deserve to be called up as he wasn't playing with any consistency. I think he deserved his call up last month but was disappointed that he didn't manage to get any game time, especially considering one was a friendly and the calibre of players who were given game time ahead of him. I felt for him and, in fairness, a lot of the national press were of the same opinion to the extent where Southgate felt it necessary to come out and give a public explanation.

If his form continues I fully expect him to be called up to the next England squad.

But most fans aren't a journalist who is meant to do at least minimal due dillgence on facts.

Honestly no idea why anyone compares someone to a gorilla in the first place but given it is going to get printed, it takes less than a minute to check the background of such a high profile player and find out that he is mixed race....and then go ahead with it anyhow?

Agree with the comments from this journalist

Other fans wont have any idea, however its his job to do research. Its not as if he had to get on Ancestry.com, a simple search of wiki would have told him. He knew exactly what he was writing.
