Far from a fan of uncle joe, but to gauge the reaction look at the cause, mackenzie ffs. That isn't oversensitive sheep reacting. I have no idea of your background but are you aware that to a lot of people in and from the city the fact that odious blurt still breathes is offensive? At what point is it acceptable?

It's clear now that Andeson has fallen back to the position that "even if it wasn't meant as a racial slur it's an attack on the Liverool race"...I;m sorry, but I dont take kindly to being thought of as a race seperate from others because of the loaction I was born into.

Regardless of that pond life McKenzie, Anderson is a friggin idiot looking to use this situation to reinforce his position.

No, that gives them a get out clause of diminished responsibility, a cop out like a bang to rights murder case. Think they aren't capable of checking and then saying sod it we need the clickbait?
I dont give a flying one what that rag or it's unternmenschen say or do. To take umbrage over that and make capital out of it is outrageous.

For all the people unliking let me ask are you sick of everytime Everton football club does something it somehow has to benefit that lot?

Everton get a new stadium- it's for the good of 'the city'

Everton could finish in the top 4 the year that lot nearly spawned the title- it would have been good for the city.

Fact is if you all want EFC to get out of Liverpool's shadow then we need to start standing on our own two feet.

If we ban the s*n we do so for their disgraceful attack on scousers during Hillsborough and a now disgusting remark on Barkley who is one of our own. We don't do it because it makes us look cuddly to Liverpool FC or Anderson, or a pat on the head for the 'good of the city'.

I wanted the s*n banned years ago, but doing it now looks like we are pandering to calls from the outside "to following Liverpool in doing" and not a decision from Everton FC.

Cringing big time at the use of the word 'racist'.

Totally demeaning actual racism.

Putting a picture of a mixed race individual next to a picture of a gorilla is certainly open to interpretation mate! like the whole Google images fiasco with the pictures of African American people coming up when you looked for pictures of gorillas, not intended as racism but it's there.

no mate he's stereotyping Liverpudlians, completely different. Myself, I'm not sure if the racist undertones were intended but that's irrelevant - a professional 'reporter' should know better, plus the entire story is rubbish anyway.
That part is not a stereotype though is it? He's calling it racism against Scousers, it's what those muppets over there do: w're not English we're scouse.

'kin ell.

Stop deflecting away from the real t*at here (Mackenzie) Anderson has just said his bit like loads of blues, reds, Joey Barton, Collymore, Linnekar etc...have.
The dispicable human being should be the one to air your anger at....

From the BBC;

The mayor of Liverpool has condemned a newspaper article about Everton midfielder Ross Barkley as "racist and prehistoric".

Barkley, 23, was punched in a Liverpool bar last weekend in what his lawyer described as an "unprovoked attack".

Sun columnist, and former editor, Kelvin MacKenzie has compared Barkley to a "gorilla at the zoo".

Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson said he has reported the article to the police for a "racial slur".

One of Barkley's grandfathers was born in Nigeria.

In Friday's article, MacKenzie targets both England international Barkley and the city of Liverpool, saying:

  • Barkley is "one of our dimmest footballers", also calling him "thick".
  • Barkley's eyes make him "certain not only are the lights not on, there is definitely nobody at home", adding: "I get a similar feeling when seeing a gorilla at the zoo."
  • Men with similar "pay packets" in Liverpool are "drug dealers" and in prison.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Anderson said: "Not only is it racist in a sense that he is of mixed-race descent, equally it's a racial stereotype of Liverpool. It is racist and prehistoric."

Anderson later tweeted to say he had reported the article to Merseyside Police and the Independent Press Standards Organisation.

MacKenzie was editor of The Sun when it published a front-page article headlined 'Hillsborough: The Truth' in the aftermath of the 1989 disaster at Sheffield Wednesday's football stadium.

The article claimed Liverpool fans were to blame for the tragedy, in which 96 people died. MacKenzie apologised in 2012.

Last year's landmark Hillsborough inquests recorded that the 96 fans were unlawfully killedand that Liverpool supporters at the FA Cup semi-final had played no role in causing the tragedy.

This Saturday, 15 April, marks the 28th anniversary of the disaster.

Burnley midfielder Joey Barton, who was an Everton youth player, tweeted: "Those comments about Ross Barkley, a young working-class lad, are disgusting. Then add in the fact he is mixed race! It becomes outrageous."

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore tweeted: "Implied racism at its finest."

A Sun spokesperson said: "Columnists are supposed to have strong opinions that provoke debate among the readers. However their views do not necessarily reflect those of the newspaper."

BBC Sport has contacted Everton, Barkley's representatives and Merseyside Police for comment.

Regardless of whether you think it's racist or not, MacKenzie is an odious individual who deserves reporting as that article slur is disgraceful.

Joe Anderson is reacting to a nasty and needless slur on the populace of city he represents, I would expect no less.

Question for you mate: if you weren't an Evertonian and knew nothing of Barkley would you immediately think "mixed race".

Along with most other people I doubt it.

Soft arse McKenzie has walked onto a punch with this without realising it.

I dont give a flying one what that rag or it's unternmenschen say or do. To take umbrage over that and make capital out of it is outrageous.

But he isn't the only one. None fat white middle aged men have called it racist by implication too. Wouldn't see that as making capital.

Flabbergasted someone can look at a picture of a mixed race lad being compared to a picture of a gorilla and say it's not racism.

I'd expect any journalist writing an article on anyone to at least look at their Wikipedia page where his heritage becomes clear.

Couple it with this weekend being the date it is and the previous the writer has then you're a fool if you think it's meant to do anything but offend people.

Oh I think I've done that. But two wrongs dont make a right.
