Ross Barkley

Both are subs. Barkley won't go there and sit on the bench.
I think he'd have to be patient, certainly. But players like Alli, Son, Eriksen will suffer injuries and losses of form and if Spurs are serious about progressing RB would be an achievable transfer target for them while staying in budget. A year left to go on Barkley's contract - they could probably get him for £30M-35M.

Ross is treated absolutely disgracefully by the English media, if it's not mediocre ex-footballers chatting nonsense about him, it's pathetic journo's writing idiotic things in the paper. I'm sure there aren't many other players getting the same treatment

You've made your point. Move on. You want him at Spurs, we get it.

Everything you say is correct but it would be good to see him use his physicality.Even though he has that as an asset he tends not to use it so in my opinion he is not unique ( he could be if he used his power and added workrate to his undoubted talent) and is far from irreplaceable.
A contract at the reported figure of £100k per week is generous imo.
As a self confessed signed up member of the Ross Barkley fan club you won't be surprised to learn that I heartily disagree with you on both counts.

Ross does use his physicality and his power. He is excellent at retaining possession of the ball and is rarely outmuscled. How many other midfielders in the premier can you name that make those powerful surges from deep setting up most of our counter attacks. There are some but not many. And his work rate has improved tremendously under Koeman.

As regards wages, I would say between £100k and £120k is fair if Rom has been offered £140k. He could expect that and more if he went to the likes of City, United or Chelsea. If you want us to compete with these clubs we have to go some way towards matching the sort of salaries they pay. That applies to new signings too if we are to attract them here, so when Joe Bloggs comes in on £100k pw how is Ross going to feel on £80k pw when he carries the burden of being our main creator?

I said in my post that he isn't irreplaceable and I believe that. But I'd still much rather have him playing for us than against us.

You really love to sell our good players.

Face the reality. He would not and should not wait and sit on the bench. No way it is going to happen.

He is in his prime and will make sense if he signs a new contract at his boyhood club. Playing week in week out.

Dave Barkley is mixed race, McKenzie just compared him to a Gorilla and put up a split photo of Barkley in the same pose and a Gorilla next to him.

Blatantly implied racism
No chance mate.

Far be it from me to hand out support to that scurrilous scumbag, but there's no way he'd have known about Barkley's heritage when making that insult.

I suppose it's in the eye of the beholder. But no one can tell me this is the explosive talent that arrived on the scene three seasons ago. He's looking more and more ordinary by the game. I'm sure his Kms covered look great like, but he's basically fitting in with a lot of players around him that are 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration.

Barkley is better than that. Much better. And Im guessing the kid knows it.

Must be in the eye of the beholder. For me he's added work rate off the ball and improved his effectiveness and consistency on it.

Yep that ball in on Sunday was 'ordinary'

He's the the form of his life, pundits and fans agree.
That WAS a good ball. But it stood out like a sore thumb from the rest of his game, which is now basically bits and pieces and largely unadventurous.

Very sly dig from Mark Lawrenson in his weekly predictions...

Everton v Burnley
_95619925_evertonvburnley.png

Burnley beat Everton at Turf Moor in October thanks to a last-minute goal but it is going to be extremely tough for them to repeat that on Saturday.

Since suffering their only home league defeat of the season, against Liverpool in December, the Toffees have won seven league games in a row at Goodison Park, scoring 26 goals and conceding five.

I think Everton's excellent run will continue - and maybe Ross Barkley will deliver the knockout blow.

Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Sting & Joe's prediction: 2-1

McKenzie is a disgrace who should be thrown in a lime pit, but "implied racism"?

FFS. That's just bollocks. Anderson is looking to score some easy points.

That crusty pie eating divvy would go to the opening of an envelope, he's that desperate for publicity.

well why have they now taken down the gorilla picture and missing link line from the story?

That's the ideal and if we can actually make that work year after year, then great.
As I said before though, the league table normally follows the wage bill. So, at least until Walsh has the full background operation running as he wants it, we will need to splash some cash.

I'm not disagreeing with you either mate, I totally agree we need to splash some cash on new recruits and get some better quality in. I'm just saying paying rank average players over the odds wages ( I'm not talking about Ross in that sentence ) isn't the best way to go about it.

We've always been quite canny in the transfer market whether selling or buying, and I'd like that to continue so that we are always looking to get value for money. That way it will always be sustainable
