Barkley is obviously a great player who is having a great season and if he does leave I think it will be for personal reasons over footballing reasons (if I genuinely thought a 'gangster' was out to end my career I'd leave my boyhood club too to be honest), but I do think he is replaceable if he does go and some of the suggestions are really good players. Mahrez would improve our first 11 right away and so would Zaha, Both could be gotten for a similar price as what we would look for from Barkley too. I do think siggy is a little overrated, like charlie Adam when he played for Blackpool his deadball skills got his stats very high, relative to Blackpool anyway.

Ive probably been a little trigger happy with the dislike button to be fair which maybe isn't in the spirit of the site? Very much a lurker here so don't know what the feelings are about that.

The dislike button is fine mate, use it as and when you need to. You'll get a few that will lose their minds over a dislike and they are best dealt with by further dislikes.

He said if Barkley refuses to sign a deal then we'll have to consider selling.

Agree though, hopefully he wants to play for Everton and signs the deal.

This is a prime example of a working class lad getting rich, and the conflict between staying true to your mates and the culture you grew up with, with the fact that you aren't a working class lad anymore. You're rich and famous and you don't really fit in either world.

I suppose ye. He'd be playing for his next contract at his next club then though right? So I suppose he'd have that motivation.

But, you'd have a player in the the first team who didn't really want to be at the club and, after being developed by the club, was going to leave on a free.

Thanks @Bungle , appreciate the inclusion, I usually only browse in the evenings so might miss a lot of the traffic. I do hope Barkley stays and we get Zaha and Mahrez in as well! Can see him moving to London to get away from all this drama though.

When you're told you're a special snowflake and given millions of pounds before you've finished puberty, then there's a 95% chance you're going to be a bell. Or at least have some bellish tendencies.

Incidentally, this is why I love Baines so much. I feel like he'd be the same lad even if he was a plumber or an accountant.

Baines didn't "make it" until he was older though. He'd also been overlooked by everyone until Sid Benson got him a chance at Wigan. Point being he's probably a sound individual anyway, but he's not been hailed as the Messiah since he was 14.
