Made up he's proving that I know very little about football

He was poor when I wrote that though.

The problem with Ross is that for 18 months he has played with no real guidance and allowed himself to gain body strength in the wrong areas thus he lost something in his performances. Some of the critisism, though harsh was merited as he looked completely lost on the pitch.

He has always clearly been a brilliant footballer but as with any talented youngster you need the correct tutor to really bring the best out of the individual.

I could understand Ross having a real dilemma over his future as he has not been in the best place in regards to pre Koeman Everton.

I hope that these past few months have repaired the relationship and he can fulfill both his and our dreams in the coming years.

None of that is down to him though which is the frustrating thing. Like you said under the previous manager he had no guidance, he could basically Potter around the pitch try something lose the ball and rinse and repeat.

Criticism of him at times is all part and parcel of football but to the point were it's at a detriment to him isn't helping anyone. The amount of boo boys and old fannys at goodison who groan and moan when he keeps hold of the ball rather than play a blind ball quickly up is ridiculous.

He's a young lad, it's pretty obvious he's a confidence type player, he needs support and patience from fans not slating when he has a poor game and especially, as you said, when he has had minimal support or guidance from the previous manager. He's looked lost in games previously but the effort and technical ability was always there. Koeman is developing him as a player, and he's providing that guidance for him to put his talent on show.

He's potentially a brilliant player, he's a very good player this season and if he can keep working hard and being trained to improve his game rather than told he is phenomenal and sensational all the time he will go on to be a club legend imo. He's got everything in his locker and is still a good 4 years off his prime.

Edit: it's not just our fans either that are on his case too much for me, the media love berating him when he has a bad game. Deli ali on the other hand... I'm not a conspiracy type guy but there is definitely huge bias in the media towards the top 6 clubs. Barkley dictated the game yesterday against a very difficult side to break down. He created 2 goals and a host of chances but mainstream media you won't see a peep about how good he was. Maybe an 8 out of 10 in the odd paper.

5 year deal and handed the captain's armband please. Similar to when slippy received it at that lot, moved up another level.

What a turnaround, he looks a completely different player than he did before Christmas.

I think everyone knew the ability was there, it was a mental weakness. Looks like Koeman has drilled some confidence into him.

Speaking of turnarounds...

This lad is never going to make it, not at Everton anyway.

Never seen a player lacking in confidence as much as him.

Not good enough.

Honestly not in the least bit arsed if we lose him.

Having Davies and Gana in the side have made a big difference for him, especially Davies.

The other funny thing is, Barkley was interviewed the other week on Gillette soccer Saturday, he was asked about the Koeman effect on him, he actually sort of dismisses it and moves on from the question saying that he took it upon himself to work harder etc.

IMO though Koeman has brought some improvements to Barkley's game, looks fitter, defensively better, and looks like he's enjoying his footy again.

I don't think he will get it while Jags/Baines/Barry are at the club. I even think if Rooney rejoined he would get it before Ross.
Not sure them 3 will be first choice if at the club past this season obviously Barry & jags aren't now.

personally wouldn't burden him with the captaincy yet although it's difficult to know how he would cope although remember Koeman already made him captain for the cup game.

Ultimately Koeman has earnt our trust with him & if he thinks he can take the captaincy then I say do it providing it doesn't stop his current form/progression.

Looked quite top heavy to me, too much shoulder and chest press - would definitely affect his balance, now hes a lot more svelte and toned on his upper body hopefully retaining the strength (strength has nothing to do with size). Think he just wanted a holiday body which affected his football.

Like @mkrudden said, he's beginning to believe. We could all see it which is possibly why he gets more abuse than others, WE know how good he can be, HE possibly doesn't.
