Ross Barkley

Unlucky not to score yesterday, good to see him letting a few shots go as that's something he doesn't do enough. Kept the ball well and moved the opposition around, cracking dribbles at times. Love him.

...not unlucky to score, he does well to get in positions but then needs to shift down a gear and go in clinical mode. It's something he has to work on. He's showing more desire to get in the box but again it's something he can do better ("get near Lukaku" as RK puts it). It's hard work to do but has such rewards, I've said he should watch Frank Lampard videos or look at Deli Ali's goal for Spurs at City. To a lesser degree, look what Seamus Coleman does from open play and think about all the runs he makes where the ball doesn't arrive but he keeps on making them.

You really struggle to give the lad the credit he deserves yes he could improve as you suggest correctly by shifting down at the vital moment but he is still head & shoulders above our other midfielders both technically & creatively.

Ali could maybe watch Ross & look to improve his ball retention & perhaps he could teach seamus to cross or control a ball.

i don't think he's being unfair at all, Barkley is becoming a more rounded player under koeman yes but his finishing inside the box is one of his biggest weaknesses which he does need to work on, he usually rushes his shots in the box when he doesn't have to.

If he worked on that he could get between 10-15 goals a season, it'd benefit us and him.

I never said he was being unfair however he has had his best game of the season by far & a man who continually extolls the virtues of Gareth Barry is picking Ross out on his shortcomings.

Ross has always suffered from being dubbed "the next big thing" following Rooney's spectacular breakthrough. The fact is that he can never go on to emulate Rooney's 'personal' success, nor his haul of awards and trophies.
IF, however Ross stays and one day leads this, HIS club, to even one title, then he will be able to look back on his career with more satisfaction than Wayne.
They will both enjoy their retirements as very rich men, but if we CAN win he league during Ross's time here, then HE will be the one that lives forever in Everton folk lore. HE will be the one to wear the mantle Everton legend. HE will be the one with no regrets and the feeling of smug contentment as he chats with his grandchildren.
Forza Ross Barkley.

That moment where he just flashed in between the palace players in their box and his shot was just wide (maybe saved/deflection because we got a corner, yes?) was brilliant. Looks very different from the player we watched last season who opted for sideways/backwards passes instead of taking it on himself. Koeman obviously expects him to play to the best of his ability without placing the entire creative burden upon his shoulders because the entire team should be working on it.
