Ross Barkley

He needs to take a look at Davies and see how working both sides of the ball impacts your overall performance. Davies killer pass to Mirallas happened because of an interceptions he made by reading the pass out of the back. If Ross is winning the ball in dangerous areas, he can create more opportunities for the team. If he does the bare minimum and only receives the ball from a teammate, he won't have nearly the same impact.

After watching the first half I was very happy with Ross and his defensive awareness. The effort he put in to keeping the squad's shape, blocking out passing lanes, and pressing forced City to make difficult passes or dribble into double teams. This off the ball work was outstanding and left me more impressed with Ross than I have been in a long time.

In the second half, after City withdrew Zabaleta; bringing De Bruyne in more central, we made the switch for Schneiderlin, and that really allowed the rest of our midfield the freedom to get forward and find more time and options in City's end of the pitch to pick a pass. I think this is when Ross is viewed by most as "at his best".

Overall, if he can continue to develop and value himself in a more team orientated box-to-box role, I believe he will find his confidence again and we will begin to see more moments of brilliance from him. Ideally, in the form of stellar outside the box goals!

Such a levelled performance from the lad. Davies got all the praise but Ross was immense. With less pressure and expectation on him, which is now shared on the likes of Davies and Holgate, I think we'll see Ross start to shine. Was in his element vs City.

Yes he had a good game. But it didnt go unnoticed he was up agst a very old Zaballeta & a lumbering Toure.
One thing different in the last 4/5 games is he isnt dithering and playing the safe sideways/ backpass he is looking for that incisive ball more & more now. Long may it last.

He has something that few mids have, he can beat his man 1v1. Playing as a no10 he gets crowded out but playing deeper he has more space and time to work with. Also looks fit as a fiddle, I'd say he's lost close to a stone on last season.
This is why he can be special. Add that he has a rifle on both feet and you see a very unique player. He just needs to be consistent and work on other areas of his game. Mentally, I have question marks about him. I think Koeman is getting through to him though which is promising.

Didn't think you could post a whole two sentences about Ross without having a go at him. Well done.

You could argue that he is able to make the more incisive pass now as there is better movement around him
