Watching the highlights back when sterling goes over Robles leg Barkley is the only other player apart from baines in our box he ran the length of the pitch to get back.

I was sceptical of koemans treatment of him but he is certainly drilling into him hard work & tactics.
 

Apologies if I'm restating the obvious, but I think we see the best from Barkley when he's under less pressure to make the killer pass or get back and tackle all the time. Seems to me that if the team plays well he blossoms, I reckon he can't handle the burden of expectation and hope that if Davies can keep developing and Schned can impact, we may start to see the very best of Ross.
 
He put in a shift - a real one; and started to feel it by 70-ish mins, stuck at it though.
IMO, that was when he played many of his better passes.
Did he revert back to instinct.
Were his thought processes slightly slowed...for the better.
Or are Koemans words and ethos sinking in??

A real positive is he started relatively poorly admittedly whilst sill working hard but he managed to turn it around.

Historically he has been guilty of being a player who if it's not going well for him then that's it he drifts out of the game & isn't effective.

Yesterday it wasn't working so he just tried harder & then it came that's what top players do.
 
Key for me was he had more attacking players in front of him. If you look at the goals Mirallas is less than 10 yards from Lukaku and Davies/Coleman are level with Barkley and making forward runs.

Earlier in the season it was Ross looking for pinpoint passes to get Lukaku in. He's so much better with the play in front of him.
 
thought he had a really good game yesterday, directly involved in 2 of the goals and showed a real hard work rate.
I do think being left out by allardyce from the 1st England squad after the euros and now southgate really affected his confidence.
 

Thought he was giving a lot of balls away for a large chunk of the game, trying killer passes albeit just slightly under or over hit. He was doing everything else wonderfully, however, and started tearing city a new one as the game wore on further.

I only saw the 20 minute highlights video on EFCTV but I was pleased with what I saw from Barkley.

ANOTHER BRAIN DEAD PERFORMANCE FROM THE THICKEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE.
 
Seems to be sinking in what Koemans wants from him. Becoming less of an individual and more of a team player. He is starting to realise that he doesn't have to do everything himself but is an important tooth in the cog. His assist to Mirallas was an excellent first time dink with the outside of his foot, his assist to Davies was helped with the run of Lukaku which bought him that second or two of time to put Davies in....he could have easily chosen Lukaku but clever thinking and awareness put Davies in. A superb nearly assist to Rom when we could have gone 4 up was a joy. Think Koeman is turning Ross into a man now and its starting to show.
 
A bit like Pogba in the way that in order to get the best out of him you need to allow him freedom to use his attacking talents while relying on others to do the defensive side of things. At Juventus Pogba had Marchisio and Vidal/Khedira around him as well as the 3 CBs behind him, all that defensive security allowed him to utilise his attacking talents and now at United he's being "bottlenecked" if you will now that he has less defensive security thus having to do more of that stuff himself, which is limiting him.

We're seeing the same now with Barkley I believe. He's in that deeper role he's at his best in while simultaneously having less of the burden of defensive duties than he would have if he was in a traditional 4-3-3.
