Ross Barkley

The big question is why has he gone backwards? People are not giving him a chance Ross is a luxury player like, Stevie G, Ya ya etc I could go on. So enjoy embrace when he "only works for 30/40% of the game" in that time he can, will win you games. Rafael GH all tried to game SG into a 10 but they all realised that he needed face the play and run at teams to be at his best. We all remember the noise made about the so called Riquelme transfer yet when we have a Riquelme type player we slate him, just play him in his natural position, watch, embrace, enjoy the Riquelme of wavertree
Agreed.
He needs some better players around him to bring out the best in him. Looks better with Tom Davis along side him. The extra energy and pace brings out the best in Ross.

If we're willing to give Kone, Gibson and Barry extensions then I'm confident Barkley's been offered one.
His agent will be making a case for a bumper new deal. Easier to negotiate if he has been hawked around the top six.
He will probably sign up again over the nex few weeks. He strikes me as proper Merseysider who would be reluctant to move away.

Mate!!! Your talking pooh... please tell me when ross has been critised after running a game? Also he has never done it 4 times in the trot. He gets abuse because he wanders around the pitch not challenging for the ball and showing no effort or passion. When things don't go your way , you need to put the work in or else the fans won't like it... it's that simple

Don't think you read the previous post pal or the post in general.

Not be good against RS but corner for Williams against Arsenal, pass to Lukaku vs Leicester (admittedly Lukaku did most of the work himself but it it was a good pass), set Lukaku up for the shot he hit the bar with, equaliser vs Hull. Can't remember if he contributed to our second versus Watford, he was only on for 25 replacing Gueye. He is contributing at the moment imo but whether he is reaching his potential or even near it is different I suppose. I think he can do more....same for most of them really ......

I'm probably with allezles on this...I was at Watford, Hull, Souhampton...and Leicester as it happens, so can share some thoughts. For me, Barkley has taken the burnt of our collective disappointment of the team and our season so far - flattered to deceive may describe it - we all want it so much more because we believe it's in there somewhere, so we carry on believing. The question is for how long?

I've written before; I think he has all the ability in the world - and I'm a big fan of Barkley - but unfortunately he's taking flak because he- and we as a team -haven't performed as we expected. I'd be gutted if his talents were taken outside of Goodison, but to single his weaknssess' out as a reason why we've struggled is too much - he has produced more than any of our wide players but gets hammered at times. I agree he can do more, but he is a talent that I think needs more support at times - so encouraging that the Manager recognised this after the Hull game. I want him to stay and be a part of our future but form and fortune can be fickle. Barkley aside, there are plenty of others who need to look at themselves.

Bang on.

Hes been under performing yet got more assists or goals than Mirallas, Lennon, Del and Bolasie.

In fact i think Coleman outshines all of them Iol

Well put. Some of the fans who have lost patience with him are now quite quick to criticise. Others are desperate for him to do well with every touch because they still really believe in him. In a period of time when we are still not producing as well as we want them to it is natural to expect more from those we feel have got that extra skill. That adds up to quite a lot of expectation which he does have to find a way to deal with if he is to be a decent player over the long term.
I watched MOTD this morning and saw two cameos that summed things up a little. Ross was one of three (iirc) blues reasonably close to close down the Hull player. Inside his own half in Rb area more or less. None of them did, the ball went forward and a few seconds later they got the corner that led to the first goal. Summed up for me that several of our players (including, even especially Ross) just do not close down naturally at all. Second half Ross makes a decent challenge on the Hull lad near the half way line, wins the ball and carries it forward quickly then puts Lukaku in who hit the bar. If he could do that even a few times more in a game it would show that bit of bite he needs to contribute more.
FWIW Sheedy couldn't tackle much either so there is hope for Ross yet but he definitely needs to just get stuck in that bit more to complement his skills.

Koeman said before the Derby that sorting a new contract for Barkley wasn't a priority, and will look at it again in the new year. Considering Barkley only has 18 months left on his contract you would think it would be a priority, unless Koeman isn't too bothered about letting him go.

If he was wanting rid you would think getting him to sign a new contract would be a priority as the longer the length of the contract he is on, the more money we would potentially get for him, Lou.

Mirallas deserves to be sold IMO... Lennon hasn't played much but works hard for the team.... del hasn't played and looks like he's about to leave and bolasie has set up more chances than anyone else in the squad.. ( I think he's crap tho and don't want him in the side).... so the players you are comparing him to are just as bad as ross... but they all work harder than he does.

This could be a problem because he might be pricing himself well above his worth at the moment in terms of wages. Let's be honest his form hasnt earnt himself a bumper deal but his sale value at the moment is still good.

It's a headache for Koeman, we have been giving deals to players with no sell on value but they won't be top earners, which is what I imagine his agent will push for.

Exactly.
