Ross Barkley

He's still standing still watching the ball, instead of reading/gambling on where it'll end up, as well as letting someone not three yards away from him collect the ball and waltz past unfettered.

He really ought to have been positioning himself better and closing down long ago. The older the dog, the harder it is to teach new tricks to.
Martinez encouraged the attacking game because he was played as a number 10. If Koeman wants more out of him then that's his job to coach it. Coaching, though, doesn't include running to the media at every available opportunity to tell them Barkley needs to pull his finger out.

I'd really like to see Koeman earn his (substantial amount of) corn by actually changing Barkley for the better instead of opening his grid and demanding he acquires it by osmosis.

A manager like Ferguson would have Barkley deeper in midfield punishing teams in an attacking sense the way Ya Ya Toure did. Instead modern managers are obsessed with not losing so wang on endlessly about Barkley's lack of defensive nous.

Toure didn't bother to do any defending at City, his remit was to break from deep and score goals, I imagine Pogba will end up doing the same Vieira did it too. Scholes and Pirlo couldn't defend either yet they were never shoehorned in at number 10.

We could have the best box to box midfielder in the prem, the player who ran past half the Newcastle side to score, who has a cannon in both feet, who can go past players like they're not there. Instead we're shoving him in a role he blatantly can't play whilst luminaries like Cleverley and McCarthy get game time in his spot.

I'd really like to see Barkley become the player he should be instead of getting patted on the arse by the Captain.

Over to the manager then. If he put as much time into coaching Barkley that he puts into bad mouthing him we'd have a £100M player right now.

Without wishing to sound like broken record, its going to take a period of time to undo all the very bad work that Martinez did to our better players. You seem to think Koeman can rectify 3 years of shocking coaching within 2months.

Lol.

Made Barkley and Stones into internationals, reopened the school of science and pl....doh...you got me talking about Martinez again!!!

He has played 19 key passes this term - the joint-seventh highest return in the Premier League along with the in-form Kevin De Bruyne and Dimitri Payet - and he created an impressive seven chances in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace last month.

Honestly, what does this kid have to do for people to get off his back. Extremely unfair the scrutiny Ross gets.
