Ross Barkley

What do you need stats for?

Do you not watch all Everton games?
I do and as I said I'm not seeing that. I don't see him constantly lose the ball either in dangerous positions or in positions further forward.

If anything I see a player who plays too safe who looks to have had all the risk taken out of his game.

Well Koeman saw him lose the ball enough to mention it in a press conference, maybe he doesnt need stats either.

Look at the amount of damage Barkley has done to City in the past further up the pitch. It's a new set up at City, but I think there's such a thing as horses for courses and the reason why some players have great records against particular clubs. They just like playing them.
I don't mind Barkley playing at the No 10 against City as long as we have two CMs with legs behind him. McCarthy and Gueye would be good.

I do however suspect it will be easier to stop City when the ball is with their CM and defense before it gets to their forwards and for that we need players who will press from the front.

That was one game during a time he was playing poorly.

Barry gave the ball away constantly against Palace and was also subbed early but because he's Barry and that's not usual nothing has been said.

Look im not here to bash Ross, I think the lad is a wonderful talent, but for me, when hes on it, hes a number 10, he doesnt have the tools to play as a CM.

Im gonna leave it there, cos I dont wanna bash the lad anymore, as you say, hes in terrible form, so lets hope this 2 week break allows him to get back on it.

That's fair enough. I just want to make one final point regarding giving the ball away and this label that he constantly does it.

The game you mentioned was Sunderland. His pass % was 80%.
The next game after Koeman had done is Roy impression he was back up to 90%
The next game after he was at 94%.
The next game he was 87%.

To give you an idea. In that last game Barry was at 79% in a far deeper role where you wouldn't expect as many turnovers.

Here's another scary stat. Kevin DeBruyne who is perhaps the best ACM similar to Barkley overall passing % is 83% in the league and I suspect even that is high.

I don't think he's best as a No 10 but if he is to play there then I think he is being over coached.

I'm hopeful that Koeman will have a game plan up his sleeve to disrupt their new party trick of pushing both FBs inside (inverting).

De Bruyne and looks like Sterling will be out; and City are preparing for Barcelona, so I expect a decent performance from Everton.

It's definitely a good time to be playing them.

Koeman is early in his time here. He's going to have to experiment of necessity. All new managers do that to find out how they can best use the players they inherit...a point made by Koeman himself.

Systems: Koeman has played with three at the back, 433, as well as the 4231 he mostly adopts. His own system is quite fluid in that respect. And Barkley he sees as a player that can play a couple of roles, so no problem there either.

Public criticism: I don't think it's worked for Barkley. He should surely see that now and shelve any further public criticism. He's outspoken, Koeman, sometimes that's entertaining and ok to do if it's kept general in terms of (Everton) player criticism. It's a massive shock to hear an Everton manager individualise his comments though. By and large Moyes didn't and neither did Martinez. I don't like to hear an Everton manager speak out about our players.

I was just playing devils advocate.

There are reasons for his thinking. Publicly calling him out can also be a form of experimentation. Will it spur him on or wont it? We wont know this a few games after. I have faith in RK as he seems a no nonsense kind of manager (ie his comments regarding Niasse). I agree with your comment "to find out how they can best use the players they inherit" but if he can't fulfil that role, he shouldn't have to rearrange his system to suit. Maybe he has tried to urge him to fulfil his role within RK's system before making an unpopular decision to get someone in who can?

I see all this with Koeman on Barkley as laying the groundwork for constructive dismissal.

I'm pretty certain he'll be sold next summer.

Great news for Moshiri as he wont need to provide any transfer window cash...again.
