Ross Barkley

I agree! His stats are good as shown he obviously has the ability.

I still think his sloppiness is all down to the bad management he has had over the last 18 months in particular. Let's hope he can become the legend we all thought he could be for the club.

I think he has a long way to go mate - he can be incredibly frustrating, and has been in the last few games. But like you I just don't agree with people writing him off.

The only expectations are that he'll fulfill his duties as a professional footballer. He might be under the spotlight a bit, but I wouldn't say he's getting any more sick than anyone else would get / is getting in the current squad (unless you feel otherwise).

That's clearly not the case. It seems a lot of the time if he doesn't score a worldy or provide a sublime assist, he's not living up to expectations...

It'll be interesting to see how he compares to those players in five years.

Lee Sharpe had 24 goals at their age, albeit playing on the left, and Lee Bowyer had scored 30. Kieron Dyer was on 23.

You never know how it'll go; especially if their name is Lee.

All the criticism I see is around him being lazy, not tracking or tackling, and then general dismay at him not taking more shots on goal. The latter is borne of frustration, as we all know what he's capable of and he should just let fly more often. But the former is a legitimate complaint that has been levelled at many players past and present. He's not being singled out on that one.

Personally I think it's evidently clear he isn't 'lazy'. What he lacks at times is nous - or he seems to switch off at times. That's nothing to do with being 'lazy', he is always trying.

I agree he's not being singled out, but 'lazy' just seems extremely harsh, imo.

I think its down to football brain, he hasn't got quite the "nouse" as a Gerrard or Lampard for example, they controlled games, maybe we don't know where he should be playing positionally yet. I also think he holds up play and slows it down too much as in his mind he's being told "keep the ball" but then this stops him making the runs or dribbles, attacks and then he looks like he's dithering, which he is, his decision making needs work and that can be coached.

Lampard never, ever controlled a game. He made a living off getting into the box and scoring/assisting - he was brilliant at it. Not once was he Chelsea's playmaker though.

We expect Barkley to be the complete package. He's getting there, but it's taking a while. That's fine. The best thing he can do at the moment is eradicate the silly mistakes he's been making for the past two years out of his game. It needs a lot of determination from him and a string manager - he definitely has one of them...

Getting into semantics here. Lazy may be a strong word, but he is prone to not bothering to tackle, allowing players to get away from him etc. 'Switching off' isn't really an excuse imo.

He just needs to watch Gana, that's how a midfielder works.

Do you seriously believe Gerard & lampard controlled games. They had alonso or makele or essien or mascerano to do this.

If your going to present arguments to why the lad isn't up to it at leat get your facts right.

Gerard massively impacted on games but once they were ahead the fat Spanish waiter moved him to the wing as he wanted to keep possession & control the game.

Lampard as he matured became better at helping to control a game but note I said help he couldn't control a game no way.

There are reasons for this namely that both players are not particularly good on the ball whilst under pressure that's not to say they aren't top class players just that to be frank your point is completely wrong.
