Ross Barkley

I think he needs a stint on the sidelines. I really do rate him, but I remember when Rom went through a bad patch and RM benched him for a few weeks, he came back with a fresh head and really kicked on. I hope Ross can do the same.
He had an awful game against Sunderland. So bad, in fact, we ended up with both the highest and lowest rated players on the pitch according to goal.com: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/match/sunderland-vs-everton/2241796/ratings

cheers for the publicity lad ;)

But yeh, even though I gave that rating to Ross (and deservedly so, IMO) equally in that first half Kev and Rom were poor.

Ross will bounce back from it. He doesn't need to do anything other than play his natural game and take on board whatever Ronny tells him to.

Equally, with those ratings, there's a few Sunderland players who were scored as level with Ross. The difference is Ross got subbed off at h-t and clearly, he was the 'flop' of the game - relatively speaking.

On reflection, Gueye deserved a 4.5.

But that's the problem. Teams find it too easy to mark him out of matches.

The problem with Barkley is I don't see what his best position is. As a 10 he's not direct enough and seems to want others to take the responsibility and as a 8 he's not defensively solid plus Barry and Gueye look great together.

Good post mate, can't disagree with that, he struggles to know where to play and doesn't adapt, some days he looks on it and others totally bamboozled. It's either his noodle or confidence, maybe a bit of both, but if he can't get to grips with the mental side to the game he will end up as another one of those players who just didn't fulfill their potential, Jeffers springs to mind.

Tough night for Ross, he was bloody awful in that first 45 and I was hoping he'd get the hook at HT, but didn't think it'd happen.

Brave call by Koeman, but the right one, as he was giving the ball away and having a mare.

Just a bad day at the office though, as he's been great this season until last night. He'll have to settle for the bench on Saturday though.

Love Ross to bits but there's no getting away from the fact he was woeful last night,I keep saying 'This could be his big season' and it never materialises. It would be easy to blame Martinez for everything but Ross himself has to stand up and be counted, show maturity and come back stronger than ever.
I obviously hope he comes back quickly from this blip in form but I do wonder sometimes about his mental strength which is something that helps separate the good from the great.

Agree 100% bar that last bit Hot Dog.

Reckon it's a toss-up myself. Boro will restrict the space and I think Koeman will look to go with a more 'traditional' 4-3-3, which I think he thinks (rightly so) that Ross is ideal for.

We'll see anyway. Nice problem to have.

the season is four games old mate and he's been very good in three out of the four league games.

The only talks I want Koeman to have with Barkley is to tell him he's been transfer listed with immediate effect.

Eh?

He had a very poor game yesterday, as he has sporadically throughout his Everton career.
He can also be unstoppable when on it.
He is still only 22 and has had a very serious injury in the past which still sees him hesitate full blooded challenges.
He will have another stormer soon enough.

I think the converse mate tbh. Boro will try and keep it compact and will be happy with us coming through the middle, we need to do what we did 2nd half last night and stretch them by having the 2 wide forwards hugging the touchline and getting at their full backs. I think Ross will be in the dugout mate.

I can't help thinking people see what they want to see with him. "Local lad syndrome" or something. I've watched every minute this season and he's been shocking for the most part. Yeovil he was good, but it's Yeovil.
2 goals and 1 assist in 4 games before last night - would suggest you're being harsh
