Ross Barkley

I just hope he embraces whatever Koeman can do for him. He's got to learn that being dropped by team Blighty & dragged at half time are merely messages that he's got to work hard on his game. Natural ability can take you so far, but hard, repetitive work is where the true talent emerges.

Take it on board Ross & be the player that many believe you can be!

This in spades.

Dropped by England, hooked tonight. He's got inherent problems to his game, that ate going to stop him being a truly great player if they aren't ironed out - passing and lack of awareness being the two worst. He was too indulged by Martinez, which hopefully Koeman can / will knock out of him.
THIS in spades.

Said it all really this summer that nobody was bothered worrying about clubs coming in for Ross. We were only worried about losing Stones or Lukaku. At this rate Barkley will end up at Newcastle by 2018.

Needs a massive boot up the arse.

He was poor and correctly subbed. But it's one game and there will be plenty where he's the one changing the game in our favour. No need to go over the top.

100% this
We have geri, mirallas, lennon, bolasie, barkley all to play in them attacking positions around lukaku. The players will change game by game depending on the opposition and player performance.
Next week geri may not get any space and not have his crossing right, but the thing is we have options to change it up instead of just hoping they will play there way out of it cos our only other option is mcgeady

Ross works very very hard on his game, especially when he hasent played well. Sometimes that can work against him. E.g bulking up to much last season in the gym (he has seemed to slim down now), trying to play the pass that the 'critics' want him to do instead of just doing it naturally and whacking it in the top bin.

Wasen't the lads day, it happens, dosent mean we should loan him out to preston now though

Worst half I've seen him play... plain awful.
But he knows it so I won't rabbit on.

He's got physical talents but his footballing brain - the top two inches which differentiates the best from the 'merely' talented- I fear Ross does not possess.

Kirchhoff was instructed to specifically mark the lad out of the match, too bad it worked but I wouldn't write him off- still could be immense for us this season
But that's the problem. Teams find it too easy to mark him out of matches.

The problem with Barkley is I don't see what his best position is. As a 10 he's not direct enough and seems to want others to take the responsibility and as a 8 he's not defensively solid plus Barry and Gueye look great together.

Pretty much this tbh. Potential is slowly tipping into Unfulfilled Potential...listen and learn Ross

Not sure Kirchoff should get the credit for the amount of times Ross gave the ball away last night.

Hoping its the kick up the a*se he needs as he has it all, just needs to listen to RK

Chelsea Away in 2013/14. We lost to a last minute fluke.
He looked like he had never seen a football in his life that day.
He has a history of throwing in an absolute shocker every now and then. The good thing is we have a manager who recognises when this is happening, and a squad that can compensate and replace him when required.

Tim talking sense ;)

But in all seriousness mate, totally 100% agree. The Barkley haters will love this and jump on him. I know we all want him to be his best, but the fact of the matter is he's been very good this season. Last night was a poor display and the correct decision was made. But he'll come back just fine.

He's at his best in a 4-3-3, given a free role
