Ross Barkley

...I think the benchmark for Barkley is that no clubs are showing the least bit of interest in him. I'm not aware of a single rumour in a market that's awash with money. That suggests to me that Coaches of top sides don't think he's at that level. If that situation changes it will be a better indication of how good he really is.

Because they can find the same cheaper abroad or already have his type in that position.

.....if he's a superstar the superstar clubs will be after him. Time will tell but there was a push for Stones and when we see something similar for Barkley it'll be a sign that he's a top player.
Chelsea have bid ~17mil for him before his breakout season I believe. I don't believe he's the type to want to move. Not at this stage anyhow. The upper echelon teams will want to see consistency before they'd pay what Everton would want.

I dont think Ross is an England player yet, i know that will outrage some, but i think although shows what he is capable of (and he is capable of great things) he doesnt yet have a fixed position in our team? Most Evertonians will argue as to what his best position is and if we cant agree then he hasnt made a position his own!

I think Ross needs to become a box to box midfielder, because he has all the tools required to make that position his own for us and for England. In order to do that he needs to be fitter and more aggressive.

He has looked fitter this season than ever before, yet Ron reckons he (and the others) are only 70%. If Ron gets him to his opinion of 100% then Ross will be a different player altogether! With regards to aggression, i have noticed him starting to sound off in the media, and he was arguing with the ref on the pitch! More of that please Ross, own that Everton midfield, mate and you will make yourself the first name on fat sam's team sheet!

I am of the opinion Martinez had that high regard for Barkley that he didn't really define a role for him, he just stuck him in the team and expected his talent would carry him through.
Koeman appears to be much now tactically astute and will expect Barkley to play a role in a system. That role could be the box to box midfielder, but whatever it is I think we will see much more product from him this year. Ability has to be harnessed and used for the benefit of the team,

Form terrible for a season are you joking he made the sky team of the year at Christmas over payet & was nominated for young player of the years based on his form until the west ham game.

You support Everton get behind your players & open you eyes

I am behind our players and i love Ross.. he was crap last season, he wasnt fit and he does nowhere near enough of the ball

Its better for him that he has to improve and push himself to get the rewards

...yep, that was lots to do with Mick Doherty apparently. You know what I'm getting at, though. He's not in England's squad, never mind team and no clubs I'm aware of are knocking our door down to sign him. It's an indication that a lot of coaches aren't convinced.

Personally, I don't want him to be a box to box player. He's not a Gerrard or Lampard

He's got more attributes to be a Ozil or Silva but with more power than he has being a Pogba. He's a final 3rd playmaker.

That is a rarity for an english player.

Fair enough but he wasn't crap For the whole season he started very well & was great until just before he West Ham game

I was hoping he would develop into that sort of player but i just dont see it. Very very rarely does he (a make the right decisión, and (b play the sort of defence splitting pass that both of those two do on a regular basis

Thats not to say im not a fan but i dont think he will ever be that sort of player, he causes havoc when he runs with the ball because he is so strong and has such good feet but i dont think defence splitting passes are one of his better attributes

He tries and sees them though. He keeps doing, he'll get better at it. But it's also the other attributes, the spreading of play, keeping tempo of attacks going

I always keep saying we were half a season away from a complete player. Let's see if he can sustain this season.

The thing that makes players like Ozil and Silva so great tho is that they play the pass before most people can see it. Ross is the opposite, he holds on and holds on and holds on and keeps running with the ball delaying the pass when everyone else is screaming for it to be played.

I agree about the other attributes tho, i think a noticeable improvement in his game recently has been how he collects the ball in midfield and keeps the attacks ticking over. Love him or hate him you cant argue that he is always heavily involved in the game and never hides from the ball....which is part of what leads to him giving it away so much!
