Ross Barkley

I've read this a couple times and still not understanding what you mean. Are you saying that Everton are stopping them being picked or that somehow Hodgson hates Everton so would pick them for the squad but wont play them?
I'm saying that Hodgson purposely isn't giving the everton players any game time over players who were injured last season at the very least.

Why? no idea, wish i knew. Probably wrong in my thinking also but that is how it looks from the outside, 18 of the 20 played and even in a rotated squad there isn't any time for Ross at least to play.

While i think that its probably more neck and neck with Alli, just my opinion, I can't see how the lad didnt get on the pitch last night when it was obvious to everyone that we needed someone who would pick the ball and drive.

Wilshire was absolute dog crap, I think Alli has been really poor if am honest (rumours are him and Kane are dead on their feet), and well Henderson offers absolutely little besides hard word.

Last night was crying out for him in my opinion, and Roy bypassed him. It could have been his moment, but it wasn't to be. Don't think he will get any minutes in the tournament.

this is my point, he will refuse to play him in any capacity unless he loses like 3 midfielders to injury all at the same time.

Same as stones, can guarantee you if we lost a centre half then Dier would play there and be replaced by Wilshire instead.

I actually went into work after the russia game and said, if wilshire is getting played over ross then his tournament is over already. Yeah, looking that way isn't it?

Deliberately leave Everton players out?

He's picked at least 5 of them in his time as England boss, I reckon this is badly tosh.

Barkley is being omitted (wrongly) as his form and fitness nosedived and there is a rumour he turned up not in the condition to immediately contribute.

Stones made a bad mistake against Holland having come through a murky season with us and Roy clearly has two favourites at CB.

Jagielka was the victim of him taking fewer defenders and it is one of the things I agree with owlhead about, he's not an international standard defender . Neither are Cahill or Smalling but hey ho.

Baines got left out because he goes for pace on in the full back positions rather than quality delivery. This now looks very stupid as he has picked strikers that need, er, quality crosses and he now doesn't have the players to supply them.

I get why jags and baines didn't go. and to a certain extent agree with that fact. The FA wanted younger players for the future so they built the squad from that, fair enough.

Stones not being used fair enough, not been at his best this season but there in case of requirements. Not swapping the centre halves out last night was again a good decision.

But Ross in general not getting on the pitch has no explanation to me. why pick him if he values players who haven't hardly played over him? Is ross there by default? My hang ups mainly lie in the fact he has gone over there and essentially is being told by the manager that he is the only outfield player who isn't worthy of time on the pitch, even when rotating the squad. What would that do to you? YOu work hard, go to the euros and then be the only player who isn't getting on the pitch with no good reason as to why.

If he wasn't fit or wasn't in the right shape or whatever then he wouldn't have went. Remember the squad was bigger when he joined up so could have easily took a different player.

There are probably a fair few players in a 23 man squad that any international coach has no intention of using, but injuries happen.

After all, why take three goalkeepers?
Sorry, what I meant was that he shouldn't be taking players who he has no use for, even when others aren't performing.

Looking at the squad, Hodgson would have been better off taking a winger, another CB or Drinkwater instead.

Roy doesn't have a clue. The whole national team situation baffles me. Why would he rest players when winning a group is the difference between playing Spain and Iceland in the next round? Clueless manager. If he wanted to play Vardy so much why don't we play him in behind the defence which is the only way he can score goals/select Drinkwater who he had such a fantastic partnership with?

Regarding Ross, he is head and shoulders above most of that midfield even when 10lbs overweight. Dier is the only one who brings any balance. Hendo is utter turd and Wilshere is a crock who can't be any more match fit than Ross after missing a whole season. Rooney is so past it and I pray to god that Moshiri thinks better than to make him some kind of statement signing.

Vault me when England win the Euros with a Captain Hendo hatrick against Spain, but I still won't be cheering.

Somebody get this man a sedative :):) ;)

If the rumours are true and we are looking at Witsel/Strootman/Schneiderlin and Mata/Sneijder then where does that leave Ross?

I think he has it in him to become a lot more solid defensively. He's got the physique and skill to become a very solid box to box player. It's a shame that mismanagement over the last two years are seeing him chasing shadows around midfield and looking completely devoid of confidence.

If he's coached properly I think a midfield of Witsel/Barkley/Mata could work very very well.

Doesn't have the mental side though, bit of a pansy.

It leaves Russ at the focal point of our team for now and our future.

Koeman will build his team around Russ.

......as I expected, England are stumbling their way through this competition and will only progress if the manager is fortunate enough to to stumble on the right combination. His teams have so far failed to beat average Russia and Slovakia sides and finished below Wales in the overall standings.

For me, he has to be more innovative and select a side that blends and has ability to break down teams who play with strict defensive lines. That doesn't mean players with running power like Delli and Henderson. I'm a Wilshire fan but he is clearly off the pace so Barkley would be a selection.

Get over it mate. Maybe, just maybe, he's playing in training like he has for the last 6 months? Mediocre bordering on dreadful.
