Ross Barkley

I think it's fair that he fell behind Alli in the pecking order, but Hodgson should think about giving him a chance now.

As much as I agree that there's every chance he'd have looked just as clueless as the rest out there, he shouldn't be in the squad if there's absolutely no intention of using him.

While i think that its probably more neck and neck with Alli, just my opinion, I can't see how the lad didnt get on the pitch last night when it was obvious to everyone that we needed someone who would pick the ball and drive.

Wilshire was absolute dog crap, I think Alli has been really poor if am honest (rumours are him and Kane are dead on their feet), and well Henderson offers absolutely little besides hard word.

Last night was crying out for him in my opinion, and Roy bypassed him. It could have been his moment, but it wasn't to be. Don't think he will get any minutes in the tournament.

Barkley has been in bad form for about 3 months. Not starting him is fair enough.

However he is also the one of the only players in the squad who can dribble. In fact saying that, can any of the other members of the squad actually beat a man? Rooney could but hasn't got the pace to get away any more, Sterling can but then doesn't look up, Lallana can do his neat little turns but again can't then get away.

If they don't think Ross has the form or fitness to do it they shouldn't have picked him. If he does then play him.

Yep, barkley can run at the team and would be great for vardy but Roy knows best and he stubborn

I agree with this. The situation is made worse by the fact that Hodgson is picking and playing players who haven't played well or been injured. If he was picking and playing players who'd played consistently well through the season we wouldn't have much of an argument.

The other factor in this is tournament football, if players are looking out of form then you don't generally have time for them to find some. In that sense it's bizarre that Ross hasn't had any minutes.

There are probably a fair few players in a 23 man squad that any international coach has no intention of using, but injuries happen.

After all, why take three goalkeepers?

I'm probably wrong but i think the fact stones and ross have not got on the pitch is more than just got getting a chance. Personally i think their club is what is stopping them playing, barkley a lot more than stones. considering in qualifiers Barkley was in the team, the fact he cannot get on the pitch at all over some of the other players there is telling. Ali should be ahead of him in the first team, as well as rooney playing in his favoured position, But off the bench he should be getting game time considering he is a very good player, so the fact that Hodgson is playing everyone but Barkley is pretty much telling me it is purposely not playing him rather than him just missing the cut.

Roy seems to be mixing and matching, Preying for a performance. maybe a lucky manager can fall into a team /system. Ross obviously isn't pulling up any tree's in training or i think he would have forced his hand by now.

Alli was in much better form an deserved to start ahead of him in the first game, I didnt have a problem with that. However Alli hasnt performed well in any of the 3 games and Ross hasnt even been given a chance. Wilshire was given a start last night and was awful, Henderson wasnt much better.

Ross at least deserves a chance now otherwise its the same old favourites getting picked no matter how they play.

Spot on. I've not been impressed with Ali in this tournement. Barkley was the perfect replacement for Wilshire. When a team sets up to defend in numbers, you need someone who will run with the ball.

I've read this a couple times and still not understanding what you mean. Are you saying that Everton are stopping them being picked or that somehow Hodgson hates Everton so would pick them for the squad but wont play them?

I honestly dont want him a part of it anymore. It just wont be a positive experience for him. I'm not dead anti england or anything but kicking his heels round the fringes of the first team is probably where he should stay rather than starting or partaking in a knockout game when he's had no part in the build up to it.

Allí has been woeful, i don't think he is a woeful player, but i think in the tournament so far he has been very much below average.

Rooney dropping into midfield has obviously muddled the waters, but still Wilshire over Barkley was a terrible decision. Even the sub, if Alli is that battered, why bring him on over Barkley - not like he has lit the tournament up and was hoping for more.
