Ross Barkley joins Chelsea, er, Villa on loan

If Everton finish sixth this season one may assume the default journo references to the "top four" will come rushing back and "top six" will be received as a baffling, meaningless phrase.

State of this. He is far too lazy to ever be a top player, if Chelsea are pinning their hopes on him this season, Lampard is even dafter than I thought.

Pre season means very little, I remember Nyarko looked a world beater. As usual, he will start the season with a flurry and then go missing again, a waste of a player.
Ultimately Chelsea will be pinning their hopes on one Christian Pulisic. He's the real deal

He doesn’t have the drive in him to become a top player. He has nice flashes here and there but doesn’t look like he’s improved at all since he was with us.

I think he has improved, not drastically though. He had a decent season last year playing a conservative role which didn't allow him much freedom and is also now a regular starter for England, putting in some good performances against Spain & Croatia.
