He is bang average. Being at a club that wins trophies doesn't make him a good footballer. I'm genuinely surprised that people are gutted he left.

I'm sure he can't wait to sit and reminisce with his grandchildren how he won the FA Cup and Europa league. Didn't get on the pitch in the former and got 15 mins in the latter when the match was already 4-1. It's what every footballer dreams of.

It doesn;t really work like that thugh does it? He had a lot of early round games in each and the cup journey was successful with him in it. To focus on the final act is old hat.

Just got a text from a mate who’s a Chelsea fan. It said, “our token scouser has a winners medal....that’s why he left you guys”.
Difficult for me to retort other than, “ yeah and good riddance....our time will come again....”

I can see your point, but for me that usually only applies in league triumphs. And even then when we sing about the 85 team we aren't including the bit part players. Ok the rule on subs was a bit different back then so maybe if that was done today we might, but really you only focus on the main players who start in your best team.

When it comes to cups no one cares that x scored a last minute winner in the 3rd round. It is all about the final. He won't be thinking that was his proudest moment either because as players you want to be the main man, you want to be the out there making a mark. When you were a kid playing Wembley you wanted to score the winning goal, not looking on from the side as your mate wins. You can join in the celebrations but it feels hollow.

I just cant see how anyone can doubt that Barkley was a full part of the Chelsea cup campaigns this season.

It's just that he's in a team now where they rotate a lot with the midfield and attack. Here he was guaranteed a starting place.

That's just the way it is at a club competing for silverware and facing 50-55 games per season.

He's fully part of that team. An equal member of it. Look at how many times Higuain played this season.

He's been more important for Chelsea than Kovacic, for sure.

Barkley 'the bit part player' is for the birds. It's just a lame way of deflecting from the fact he made the right career choice. Many crowed about him only being able to attract a Newcastle or West Ham. Well there he is - an integral member of a top team holding silverware. It seems that for some that fact is too difficult to handle.

Not every player can do what Sterling can do, you also need other players in your squad, its a team game after all.

I look more fondly on Amokachi's double in the semi vrs Spurs than Rideouts winner at Wembley.
