Ross Barkley joins Chelsea, er, Villa on loan

It's a pivotal season in that respect.

However, if he slips out of the elite, he'll go to a best of the rest club like back here or to Leicester, or abroad to a good club. You wont see Barkley in a West Ham shirt or Newcastle shirt. That truly would be like giving donkey's strawberries.

Completely agree.

He's not going to reach the level he could have done - whether due to mentality or injuries or a combination of both. But he's still a very, very good player. He has unteachable technique and instincts.

I actually understand why people don't rate him as he appears too passive too often on the pitch, but that's just his style - like how Berbatov was as ridiculously languid as he was talented.

I'd personally have him back in a heartbeat.

He's overawed at Chelsea, IMO. He's not showing what he can do. Needs to relax and be made to know he's seen as the man who makes things happen, come what may.

I'd love t see him back here.

He’s going to be 26 this December. There’s no more talking about his potential, he’s about at the age where what you see is all you’re going to get.

Although 26 nearly, he's a bit of a half wit. That could mean he will still keep learning stuff after others have peaked, or equally he won't get any better because his head just isn't up to it. His feet are definitely highly gifted - pity his head isn't up to the job, regardless of who he plays for.

Appears too passive or is too passive? Because they sound like the same thing to me, unless you're saying he was pulling the strings but it was too subtle for the Park End Teds to notice?

Have to put your foot in when wearing the Royal Blue Jersey, esp centre mid. We can argue about whether that's a silly expectation or whatever in the modern game but it's just the way it is and always will be at Goodison Park.

Bit of both. He often dictated games but didn't get the credit for doing so, but then he also often hid and was mentally fragile.

He's improved a lot at Chelsea but not quite well enough to be the world class player he could have been. He has the same weaknesses but with the severity of them lessened.
