But this is the thing....for all the records he had broken over there, I never feel the Mancs have taken him fully to their hearts nor will they regard him as a legend in the way they regard Edwards, Charlton, Law, Best, Cantona, Keane, Giggs as club legends and icons.

If he had a chance to come back here this season and became central to our revoloution and led us even to Wembley cup success then he would become a legend at the club of his dreams.

I would love to see him return....but it would have to be now.

I don't think he would be a legend now even if he did come back and take us that step further. For all intents ans purposes the only fans who remember he played for us are us basically. Come the time he retires he will only be remembered for United.

Now I'm happy to say I'd like to see him retire there. Don't get me wrong I'd have him back in a heartbeat if the deal was on but realistically for him it would be nice to see him at least show loyalty to a club all the way to the end.

I know he could have been loyal to us but we sold him and replaced him with Marcus bent at the time , perspective is always he would never have been anywhere near as successful as he has been.

He hasn't had his old pace for years. However let's not say ridiculous stuff like "he couldn't keep up with the ball"

He was comfortably the best player on the pitch (either side) vs both Russia and Wales, so let's be somewhat reasonable eh? He's not going to be the player he used to be, but has shown enough both last season in certain games for Utd and in the Euros so far to suggest that he'll evolve into a very good central midfielder for the remainder of his career.

I don't think it's particular to evertonians but it's interesting that what off field factors can do to a persons ability to judge a football game/player objectively.

You can see it in this & and the Lukaku thread, I get that what he's done in the past my mean that's they'd never want him back but to say he wouldn't improve a midfield that relied hugely on a 35yr old and had Cleverley & Kone starting in it consistently is a bit odd really isn't it.

If you don't want Rooney for jibbing Everton off in the way he did and subsequent badge kissing then fair enough.

If you don't want Rooney as you think he's not good enough to walk into our team for a few years yet then fair enough.

The reason Rooney isn't appreciated as the player he is and has been is because of the player he could have been, in an ideal world.

Look at the four goals he scored at Euro 2004, age 18. Even the celebrations. That kid was superhuman.

Rooney at 18 was easily the best 18 year old player on the planet. Compared to Messi, Ronaldo, Bale at the same age, Rooney was in a world of his own. Nobody even held a candle to his hairy arse.

Ronaldo, Messi, Bale - theae guys then spent 8 hours a day in the gym or on the training ground, year after year. Rooney spent his time in a brothel or a McDonalds with a fag and a pint of bitter.

Fair play to him, like. It's the flip side of the coin that made him the player he was at 18. You probably couldn't have had that brilliance without the silly bit.

Thing is, Rooney will forever be compared to the imaginary footballer he could have been, with his natural talent and genius, combined with the obsessive work ethic and discipline of Ronaldo. And he will always come up short.

Yeah, he might be Englands and Utds record scorer by the time he retires; but you can't shake the feeling that he could've scored twice as many, if he had been able to put the extra effort in.

he doesn't play dmid. cleverley costs a 5th of he does and is a role player. kone isn't long for everton.

I disagree.

I think it would be a massive statement.

Not only do we intend to do new, great things but we are also taking back what is rightfully ours.

Wayne Rooney and EFC have unfinished business and now is the last best chance for him to finish it.

Lure him from United to become involved in the new Everton would make the football world sit up and take notice.

Wayne is still easily the best English player around.
