I’ve read a number of his articles over the years , he’s actually articulate in his analysis and very good , but it seems he’s unable to put this into practice. There are certainly people who have much less of a clue about tactics than Rooney, and earning a decent living out of it.

Jamie Redknapp for a start.

But seems Rooney has been working on it. I hope he gets another cracking and sticks with it, because he's got something there as you've said.

None of these types have any interest in doing the hard spade work needed to build a foundation of being a top manager.

Look at Eddie Howe.....Miracles at Bournemouth but also started out -17 points, no transfers allowed etc... and learned how to actually COACH players and develop a team. Rooney and Lampard don't have the hunger to trawl through a 100 lower league/non league games for the chance they may find a hidden diamond. Lazy and want it all without working for it.
 
I found the entire move quite odd, considering the lengthy commute and the time spent away from home. It's hardly conducive to high performance.

However, I do agree with the comment about Eddie Howe and the necessity to start afresh at the grassroots level. Managing people is vastly different from being a good player. If I were in his shoes, I'd be that house in Cheshire, contribute to the local community, and start rebuilding from non-league football nearby. He could enjoy a different kind of football and see where it leads him—after all, he doesn't need the money.
