[Just ran across this but didn't see any other threads mentioning it.]

So Rooney is mentioning that he wants to be a manager when he hangs up his boots. He wants to start in the lower leagues though, then work his way up. I like that Rooney refers to us as a "big" club too.

"But I wouldn't like to follow the manager here, or start at an Everton or Manchester United. I want to learn something about the lower leagues and build a reputation that way rather than just jumping into a big club."

I've seen lots of threads asking if we'd accept Rooney back as a player. I've never seen one asking about him being a manager, so here goes.

Let me set the hypothetical table here:
He's had 3-4 solid years in a lower league. The Everton manager spot is open and he wants it. He's been good but not great and is primarily being considered because of who he is.

Would you want Rooney at Everton as a manager?

That's an EPIC popcorn post there mate.

*applauds your balls*

Rooney's got the cranial capacity of a baked potato.

Ergo, like most top players, he'd probably be a [Poor language removed] manager.

Subject to my Treatment being successful , of course , can someone tell me the day before this happens ....
SO I CAN KILL MESELF !!!

***Sits back, puts the popcorn on and waits for Chico to join him******

For the record, I didn't float the idea, Rooney did, which is why I was suprised no one else had mentioned it yet.

For me, the answer is "no," especially if he's only had a few years (as in my scenario).

If he somehow proves to be an adept and shrewed manager for 10-15 years I may give him a chance, but I fear he'd be at best a poor version of Keane and Ince (but I don't think he's near as intellegent). I seriously doubt he is ever given a chance as a manager in the PL.

Rooney doesn't come across as being thick. I dont know where the idea that he is stems from. He doesn't sound like a rocket scientist either like, but....

hmm, popcorn, but no show... figured the answer to that one may be too one sided.
[Gets impatient, decides to stoke the fire]

Are there any Moyes-era players you WOULD welcome back as a manager?
(Full manager, not just assistant, as that is too easy).
