Don’t think we’d have got someone like Immobile or Icardi and at the time I didn’t fancy Benteke at all....but that was before I knew we’d end up with nobody...

This doesn't get talked about enough. Any club with a clue had Lukaku's successor lined up two years ago, having started looking for him the second we signed Rom.

Surely we've been identifying replacements since Lukaku rejected the contract offer???

That said, the problems run deeper than the striker issue. I genuinely believe even with Lukaku in this side we wouldn't be too many points better off.

Money has got to the point where a manager won't walk out with dignity for fear of losing out on multi million pound pay off, he'll wait to be sacked and lose his self-respect. That to me is a sad state of affairs and a curse of the modern game.
