I don't think he is the worst candidate but I agree in the long term it would be damaging to both us and Unsworth. Could you just imagine the pressure he would be under if he was manager under our current run of form? He would be booted out by now and that would be his one and only crack at a big club. He just hasn't got the gravitas (+experience) to give confidence of turning around such a situation.

I firmly believe that he needs to go earn his crust somewhere else first as a manager before he can be ruled as a candidate here.

Or perhaps we could promote him and give him genuine, full-throated support?

Koeman's issue right now is team selection, an issue magnified tremendously by that he doesn't seem to understand how poor his selection is and that he is starting to trot out the "we're not expected to beat United/Chelsea/etc." card. It is also becoming clear that his transfer strategy isn't really one as such.

I want our next manager to pick a team with greater thought to how the individuals might play together. I think Unsworth would be in the best position to make those calls by virtue of his familiarity with the first team and with the U-23s. I also think that mixing things up would make the ultimate roles for Rooney, Sigurdsson, Klaasen, etc. easier to ascertain.

Agree with this. Also, there is a huge gulf between managing a group of keen, young ambitious lads at the beginning of their career, versus a group of millionaires made up of self-entitled snow flakes, or those simply jaded by the fact they have plateaued too early in their career, or those already over the hill.

It's worse than Martinez. It took Martinez about two and a half seasons to be as unpopular as Koeman is now.

Unsworth should only be a stopgap. I don't want him being our manager in the long run. He's doing a fine job with the U23s and I don't want the fans turning on him the minute things go wrong.

I'm in favour of appointing him until the end of season. That gives us time to evaluate Unsworth in the role and also to weigh up other options.

Love Unsy but if we do get rid of RK I don't think this is the time to punt him into the spotlight ....I do think he has a future with us at a later date...wouldn't like this to be in the Championship

I agree that Unsworth would immediately provide the boost and get the team playing together much like he did when he had that one game after Martinez was handed his ass. The trouble is what happens after the new bounce? What if we get a run of games facing the top sides like we just have faced and lose, confidence drops, players start thinking well not going to do much this year and in the mind are off on hols already. (Might not be in his first season here - it's always the 2nd...)

I think there will be too many people pointing the finger bringing up his lack of experience and that makes the whole situation worse.

We need to support his career of course, if he can be an assistant manager to the next one we bring in that would be great but that is up to the new bloke to decide. If down the line when he is ready we should look to find him the right role to test his metal. That could be with the national U21s or even better a championship club where we could support him by loaning them a load of our younger/fringe players. He would know from the outset we are doing this in view of bringing him back as the top man later if he is the real deal.

Not for me. We risk losing more time on a long odds punt. For me we currently have enough time to appoint a properly experienced manager , if that is the path we decide to go down. Our current incumbent will get until Christmas at least to right his ship.
Ironically I would be more conducive to such a speculative appointment if we were established as a top six club. Our current position makes his inexperience and lack of stature within the game a liability I'm afraid.

But a club with our purported ambitions should not just be taking a punt on an unproven manager. We should be taking our time and appointing someone who has already proven they can do the job. If we have to dismiss Koeman, why risk wasting more precious time on a manager we are not confident in? That is not the action I would expect of a professional, well run club. /

Completely lost the confidence that we are this sort of club, we allowed the manager to splurge 150 odd million pounds with no obvious plan of what sort of team he wanted to build, utter madness, we're a mess of a club just a few marks above West Ham in my books.
