Ronald Koeman discussion

It is precisely for this reason that he will be scrutinised more by the fans, the press and, probably, the board this season. Spending money in football doesn't buy you time it puts you under a microscope.
Do you think they are going to spend that much and then after half a season say we don't want you ?He is here till the end of the season at least.

yes we have a tough start, yes we have a few injuries, but that's no excuse for turning us into west brom. Get some flair players into the team and have a go.paying 50 mill for iceland and playing him as a second leftback absolute genius.

I'm generally a Koeman fan, but he sure needs to pull his head out of his backside in his approach to 'tough games'. The eleven he sent out into the pitch yesterday were/are capable of playing a better brand of togger, regardless of the opposition.
I think he set the team up aware of the dangers of playing higher up the pitch.Jags and Williams both turn like ocean liners. And before the usual clammer to buy younger and better CBs,who are they and what would they cost?

Drawing conclusions based solely on yesterday's match is totally absurd.

We won't have a week as hard as this one all season. Give Koeman a break, he didn't choose the fixtures.

Too many fans seem to be using Chelsea as a yardstick of our progress. Not only is it absurdly early in the season to be drawing conclusions about our chances, but Chelsea shouldn't be the measure.

I've gained hope this weekend. The real target for the season is putting ourselves in the 'top 6' bracket. Arsenal's, and to a lesser extent Tottenham's, performances have shown us that there's light there.

The media have slapped a glass ceiling over our heads already. Don't fall for that. Sixth, at the least, is attainable.

Wrong. Chelsea should be the measure and rest of top 6 not putting 6 past Bournemouth.

And as for your last comment.

What the last week has proven to me is that koeman really does have a specific way of playing and will run the team through it over and over until they get it right.

We did it last season and it started to click at arsenal onwards , now we are doing it again. I suppose this is a good thing, we aren't knee jerking after results but sending them out to play a system on the basis that eventually we get it right and start to see the positive of it

Problem with that mentality is that if it takes that long to get them performing in that specific system, then the season to all intents and purposes could be left down to trying to finish seventh again and hoping one of the top six win the fa cup.

Plus trying to get players bedded into a system whilst at the same point having already played six games without several key components needed to even make that system work is frankly bonkers at best and horrible naivety at worst.

The top sixth isn't a monolith. That's how the media refer to it.

Surely you're smart enough to see Chelsea are better than Arsenal.

Indeed. Chelsea are better than Arsenal yes. However how we perform against the top 6 sets a benchmark if we have aspirations of breaking it.

And more impactful for the club than manager decisions... Got it. Tell me more about the culture I grew up in
Problem is, compadre, you didn't want Koeman in the first place. You wanted De Boer above him.

I said I'd give him a full window. He's pretty much had one and spent a fortune.

Not impressed at all. Got a small time mentality when it comes to playing the supposed better teams. Invites pressure, circles the wagons, very moyes like.

On a week where that lot destroy 2 teams... we play like nervy scared schoolboys with no cohesion or flair.

Exactly what good would a world class striker make in the way Koeman has us play. There is only room for 11 on the pitch, the keeper takes one of those, so 10. Koeman then wants to use 3 center backs. So down to 7 left. He then plays with 2 more defenders as full backs (and I will not call them wingback because they do nothing going forward). So down to 5 spots left.

He then will always play with Gana and Schneiderlin if healthy and available as holding midfielders. So down to 3 spots left. So far, no players offering any distribution in attack. So who takes up those last 3 spots? Rooney is going to play. Gilfy I would imagine. And for now Sandro. So replace Sandro with Costa and we still aren't offering any support in attack, still set up ultra defensive with our forward outnumbered and far too many players who are primarily out there to defend and break up play.

Conte plays 3 at the back as opposed to our 5, and he uses actual singers as his wing backs/ full backs. He converted Moses from a forward to winger, primarily there to attack. Same with Alonso, he's there to get forward and attack.

He lets his 3 defenders worry about defence, knowing most teams only use one striker. That allows one defender to get forward in attack when they want, still having 2 back to worry about the opposition. And Kante is in the middle of the park stopping the opposition from hitting them on the break.

Koeman sets out with mostly defenders. Conte sets out with mostly attackers. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the difference and predict the result 99/100 times.
