Ronald Koeman discussion

It's about damn time we had a manager who says it like it is, rather than be a BS spouting dolt or mr dour like our previous incumbents. Far too many of the squad are not pulling their weight and been told pretty much to shape up or ship out. That for me is good management
Yeah, because the only way to manage a team of players is to either soft soap than or call them out in public as inept. No grey area in the middle where you just stfu in public and keep relations with players behind closed doors?

Everton finally has a ruthless manager in charge. Get used to the new world gentlemen. He's told the board to put up or shut up, and now he's telling the dross to ship out. At least one person at Everton wants success and knows how to get it.

Guess who wins that argument ultimately?

He's not really ruthless, he's just building a team. He's just being very direct in terms of what he wants his team to be, and you either get on the train or get off. He's going to be a bit different when he gets his guys in that buy in. But god forbid he sets up a competitive, high performing environment. Being direct is different than being ruthless.

Recent Everton managers on their playing squads:

Moyes
They are all injured. I don't have any players anyway - we can't afford them. We're lucky to be in the league. There's a gunfight going on and all I have is a plastic knife from M&S. Their knives are free. I can't afford anything from M&S.

Martinez
Leighton. Ross. Unique. Pass. A diamond sent from Jesus Christ in a manger made of stardust. Niasse has flu in his wrist. A silky ruby. Cleverley is a oil painting made with olive oil. We had a special intensity after conceding the seventh goal.

Koeman
Gang of ****ing s**tbags.

I don't really see the problem. He's not singled anyone out and has already told the individuals by the sounds of it. It's a professional game and they can ply their trade elsewhere to get paid handsomely. At least players know where they are with him.
Where is the benefit of doing that?

I can think of only one effect a policy of downgrading your own players in public: they dont put it in for you in a match.

He;s had this approach elsewhere and it merely pisses good players off. As said, it's a numbnuts, egotistical, playing to the gallery approach that lacks anything remotely like class.

I know for a fact this is what the players were scared of. A few of them didn't want him and this is why. Time to start earning their thousands eh?

Well clearly the manager.

40m on 3 players so far since he opened his trap.

Ronny is defo WINNING.
No mate, that's not called winning, that's called buying players expensively...there's a consequence that comes with it: make these purchases pay or all your showboating will come back to haunt you..

History lesson required here

Please do some research on how the greatest manager in our history treated players once he had decided he didn't want them anymore

god I'd hate for that to start happening! Can you smell coffee Dave? Nope? Wake up!

There must be a sense it trepidation amongst players, whenever a new a new manager is appointed. Moshiri wants results and fast, koeman isn't here for the long term. He wants a change in personnel, mindset and ambition at the club. Koeman rightly or wrongly calling out his players in public, is the man to implement that change. You either welcome change, embrace it or as many players have found to their cost, they are not wanted.

Any decent player who belongs in a successful team would think 'I'm going to prove him wrong and get in this team'. Look at Schweinsteiger and even Fellaini at United, written off by some managers only to then get back in favour. If a player is sulking then they are just confirming Koemans initial judgement.
I agree with the theory, absolutely. As I said, I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing, and we don't even know who he was talking about.

It's not always that simple though. Footballers are humans at the end of the day, they have feelings, they can have a crisis of confidence and they don't necessarily get better through trying harder. It's also worth noting that they might not even want to prove him wrong. Sometimes a player might agree and think maybe it's time for a change of scene, so they switch off a bit while concentrating on the next step. Maybe they need to be told they're wanted, need an arm round the shoulder, or thrive off responsibility. If the manager had said that to them instead of saying, 'I don't really fancy you' maybe they'd have gone from strength to strength.

Fellaini's an interesting example to use- a player many Everton fans demonised as the archetypal bottler and sulk now being lauded as the example that the current players being demonised as bottlers and sulks need to aspire to.
