Ronald Koeman discussion

Even if it was quite blunt, I enjoyed his show of passion after the game against Leicester, it reminded me of an Everton fan in contrast to his relatively dry and miserable previous interviews/touchline behaviour so far this season.

That said, 7th place without a trophy isn't considered a success at Everton the way it was at Southampton, and so he has a lot of work to do besides moaning about the board. Hopefully that increased display of passion is an indication of the motivation required to sort out a/the team out and get some momentum going, as it's ultimately his job to do that.

These are good points ( pun intended ) Ern. But we can only really judge Koeman at the end of the season. If we finish roughly where we are now ( 7th ) he's improved us.

If we have a poor second half of the season, then he'll likely have done no better than his predecessor, but I reckon the second half of the season will, as far as points go, be similar to the first half and we'll finish seventh or eighth, which, while not great, would be acceptable.

Two teams who finished outside the top 6 last season are now 1st and 2nd. It was always going to be a real challenge to crack the top 6 this season, our appalling summer window put paid to that.
2nd half of the season with hopefully a good jan transfer window, will see us consolidate our 7th place. However we all expect to see a more expansive, entertaining style of football, that will hope us develop a style of play that not only nets us European football next year, but also gives us some much needed impetus going into the summer transfer window and the start of next season.

Chelsea and the RS both under performed woefully last season, they have added quality to their respective sides and are at present light years ahead of us not only in playing personnel but style of football. Koeman's record whilst at Southampton proved, he can produce effective entertaining teams but which are also well drilled and disciplined. Martinez at times could produce the former but never the latter.
