Ronald Koeman discussion

I was talking to someone last week about first time visitors to Goodison and how I see it in their faces how they "get the club" almost in an instant. I said that the saying " once Everton has touched you etc" was not just a line but reality. I spoke to a guy last week who folows Everton everywhere and spends cash on Everton to help the club. Blue through and through.
This bloke Koeman feels little or nothing for us as a club. You can see it in his demeanour. He isn't and never will be an Evertonian. Its his job, nothing more. He would have gone home yesterday thinking it was a bad day at the office but he's not bothered about how Evertonians feel. His after match comments on fuel my feeling he is happy to blame everyone but himself.
Of course we should give him time and maybe we will start playing better when he gets his own players in but for now I just cant take to the guy or his choices. Its almost as if he wants us to look clueless . I watched their manager yesterday urging their players to hunt the ball. A few weeks back the guy from Bournemouth almost ran himself into the ground keeping his players going until the final whistle.
Our noodle stands there with his hands in his pocket and says the players don't work hard enough for the team. I couldn't agree more.

....these blokes are driven by their own ego, he will want to be a success for himself. Not all managers are demonstrative on the touch line, it isn't a reflection of how effective they are or how much they care.

So how would we describe Koeman's philosophy of play so far? What is the pattern of play he wants us to develop? He definitely wants us to pres more when we do not have it and that wish is being shown in little bursts but not enough for anyone's liking yet. He uses 3at the back occasionally. More long angled passes from defenders to wide man of the three behind striker? More in the air to Lukaku? Mainly using 4231 which is what most teams play I think? Work harder to win second ball even if Lukaku does not win header. Genuine question. It all just seems a bit haphazard on the pitch in this bad run we are in.

No koeman can't get them performing because they are crap.

If the players aren't good enough then not even Guardiola could work miracles.

Funny how koeman is proven to get top 6 finishes and this squad of players currently is proven to be 11th. And you blame the manager?
There's a significant difference between players being 'crap' and players who, for whatever reason, are performing below their expected standard.

When referring to the majority of our squad I'd say overhyped? Possibly at least to an extent. Are some of the players beginning to diminish? Yes.

Underperforming? Certainly so. But crap? No sorry, for me that's nothing more than a crass and simplistic response to the matter at hand.

I agree with your earlier points about complacency and lack of competition, nevertheless I think there's many more elements to our current form.

Whatever they are however, the players on the pitch should be able to still beat our recent opposition, but they aren't, which can't be ignored.

I'd start with what I perceive as a lack of an actual system that works in our favour, rather than a mismatch style that isn't really reaping rewards.

the first season with Martinez was good, but he spoiled it in the next two. he should have been harder. koeman is hard and we will get into Europe. and he will aim for Champions League.

Wish i was as confident as you as getting 8th or 9th mate, i fear a lot worse position.
I think we'll be a little bit tougher to beat than most of the bottom half, that's not to say that we'll be better in the attack because at the moment, I don't see things changing unless we bring in some new faces.

Is it just me that's puzzled over why our attacking play was so great last season and has suddenly turned poo?
In all honesty I think we all wanted to see the defence tighten up and to stop conceding silly goals.
RK has done this in the main, but in doing this he has compromised the attacking threat we had.
I guess his next job is to find that balance, if we don't we will continue to struggle

He has made the defence a lot tighter but even he can't legislate for a central defender who is now too slow for Premier League standard and subsequently hacks people down in the box for fun.

He could of dropped him, not like he doesn't see him in training every day
Even without this gaff by him our attack was at best toothless, so back to my point he needs to get that balance

But he didnt get Everton.

He just lied, Ronny doesnt do lies, he just tells it how it is, Martinez certainly got Everton when he was getting his 10m compo thats for damn sure.
Correct. He didn't have a clue, he thought evertonians would believe his post game BS, the fans had to protest to get rid. He then took us for £10m.

He's basically a Kopite, he saved them from himself and then took money from us he didn't deserve.

More behind the ball doesn't constitute sorting a defence out, it just means he's left the team imbalanced.

It's like someone with a purely liquid diet with no solids. The system can carry on but the metabolism slows.

Thats what we have here.

We play the same formation David, we dont have more behind the ball.

Heres where I pull your pants down again.

2016 GA 14 4-2-3-1
2015 GA 16 4-2-3-1
2014 GA 19 4-2-3-1

Like shooting fish.

Lol. You really dont get it do you?

You dont have to play 5-3-2 to have more behind the ball. You drag both wide players deep and play more compact lines. That's great, but there's no transition beyond a ball pumped long to Lukaku (Koeman is attempting to play him like that big lump Pelle) or out wide into space for Bolasie to run after.

It's utter trash. Please dont try and defend it.
