Koeman was onto something better than people realise with Southampton. Just checked and they were 3 points off top 4 last season. And there squad last season was far from that good on paper.

All in hindsight but had Southampton held on to their best players for three years, here are the options they would have had -

Players left -
2014 - Adam Lallana
Dejan Lovren
Luke Shaw

2015 - Nathaniel Clyne
Morgan Schneiderlin
Toby Alderweireld

2016- Mane
Wanyama

Added with players of quality they have now - Forster
Van Dijk

Had Southampton shown some ambition and kept those players, they'd be right up there for the Champions league positions. They lost all those in a period of three years!

I don't know how close Koeman and Walsh will be working with each other, but hopefully they can work up a squad as solid as that on top a handful of promising players we have. If that is what Southampton lost in three years, it may take us that to add to our squad players like in the list above. But I'm confident that if that is the case then patience will be rewarded.

**Also seems that our transfer targets followed a similar pattern

What is the style he wants to play? I hear a lot about this, but I;m not sure what he's looking for. Surely you adjust your tactics to play to your strenghts? Its not that we need Koeman players or whatever, we simply need better players because better players get better results.

It's basically about playing with intensity.

Winning the ball back high up the pitch and breaking at pace.

Now, for all of his faults, Bolasie did that countless times today. Won the ball back by sprinting to the man on the ball at the time and blocking the pass etc.

Gueye does it brilliantly. Lennon gave it a go as well.

Compare it with Ross and Rom and Jimmy Mac...

There was already a style of play under Pochettino that he carried on.

Poch is a quality manager, so taking the reigns from him wasn't the worst situation to be in.

Which is fine.

But there doesnt seem to be an idea about what to do when we have the ball.

We don't build from the back. We bypass the midfield. Hoof to our wide players or striker.

We're not playing to any players particular strength.

If "high pressing" was a big factor, why didnt he buy or attempt to buy those types of players? Why doesnt he play Cleverly and McCarthy more often? Their work rate excels any footballing ability they have.

In fact, if this were the case, Clev should be starting over Barkley.

He didn't carry on that style of play as all the ones that made S'ton tick under Poch left...

What he did do was inherit a very well-run/put-together squad and brought in players who complimented that and how he wanted to play.

He then improved upon Pochetino's league placing two years running... While still having to deal with his best players leaving.

Yes...based on the style Poch set which was the high press and intensity.

Koeman added more directness
