Yeah, because it would be better to lose Arteta in a few years and then be left with no playmaker period, right? Who are you to say that Moutinho wouldn't come in and take only a few months to adapt? How long did it take Pienaar? How long did it take Arteta? The whole "not proven in the premiership" argument is clutching at straws. Moutinho is a class player and Portugal international. He isn't suddenly going to turn into [Poor language removed].

We can buy a playmaker when we know Arteta is about to leave.

Its stupid buying a playmaker just for a few years. Arteta has 5 years in him yet.

Otherwise, lets sell all our players to City. Cahill, Yakubu, Yobo, Howard, Neville, Saha.

They're all PAST IT.

You seem to be completely unaware of the little-known fact that we are completely skint. This is simple logic you see. If we sell Arteta now for 20m, we have enough money to ensure that we get a classy, young central midfield replacement who can fill his boots. If we sell Arteta 4 years from now for 5m, then we get a Jason Koumas as a replacement. That's why it's wise, for a team which is completely skint, to sell their players when they are worth some money and get a good young replacement in to ensure that they don't fall into mediocrity when the a crucial player is past it, leaving them with no replacement to fill his boots.

The Mout is a class player and I would love to see him at Everton, but only alongside Arteta, not instead of. If we sold Arteta to buy The Mout, we wouldnt be making progress.

It seems to me people are scared of change.

"Don't sign him, he's not proven"

"Don't sign him, he might disrupt the team spirit"

Ridiculous.

Was Ronaldo proven in the Premier League? Was Torres proven in the Premier League?....even close to home...Was Cahill/Lescott/Arteta/Pienaar proven in the Premier League? We didn't know their attitude, they may have well been disruptive players who might cause unrest - but they didn't, and there's nothing to say Moutinho, Defour or anyone else would.

Obviously it would be ideal to have both. But if we sold Arteta and replaced him with Moutinho, we'd be ensuring for both the present and the future.

And as i said in the previous post, we have tons of older players.

So lets sell them now and replace them. Any player 26 and over i say. We can easily replace them.

Nash
Hibbert
Yobo
Lescott
Jagielka
Arteta
Saha
Jacobsen
Neville
Cahill
Pienaar
Howard
Yakubu
Osman

I mean, in five years time they will all be so old! GODD MOYES ISNT PLANNING AHEAD.

IN FIVE YEARS TIME WERE ******* DOOMED.

I can see your point but you seem to be forgetting the what if of what if we keep Arteta now and his contribution and outstanding play next season (or one of the next few) help us get a top 4 finish and Champions League run which gives us enough money to buy the replacement playmaker we want.

Or what if we sell Arteta now and his replacement turns out to be pants and we languish mid table?

Its a tricky decision and no one knows the best choice to make.

Im not scared of change, im scared of selling our best players, regardless of fee. We shouldnt be a selling club, we are the 5th best team in England, FACT.

So shall we sell Cahill because we have the younger Fellaini?

I blame Bill for this.

Get out of this mentality that there are two types of clubs, buying clubs , and selling clubs.

There are 3. Your buying clubs, selling clubs, and clubs willing to do a bit of good business.

Selling Arteta for £20m is good business - It doesn't necessarily mean we are a selling club.

Again there are different types of selling clubs.

Newcastle this season are a selling club - A selling club with no intention of bringing in a better player.

Everton this season potentially could be a selling club, but a selling club with the intention of bringing in better players.

It depends on how good the business is really, I'd want loads for Mikel, more than 20mil that's for sure.

In my opinion, Arteta is a better player than Moutinho. That's why I wouldn't swap them.

20 million is alot of money though, we'd be stupid not to consider it.

The thing is, I could see Bill stepping and accepting a fee such as this! We are not in the financial position to reject a £20M offer for a player. Fact.

Moyes has complete control of who goes in and out of the Everton team. Moyes himself has said this.
