Jack Rodwell has been included in the England squad for next month's European Under-21 Championships.

The Everton youngster only made his first appearance for Stuart Pearce's side in April but impressed enough to make the 23-man squad.

The championships, which will take place in Sweden between 15-29 June, will see the Three Lions take on Finland, Spain and Germany in Group B.

They will also play a friendly against Azerbaijan at stadiummk in Milton Keynes on Monday 8 June.

Rodwell has made 25 appearances for the Toffees this term, scoring his first goal for the Club in February's FA Cup fifth round clash with Aston Villa.

"I have every confidence in this squad, we are really looking forward to competing with the best under-21 teams in Europe, and hopefully, doing our country proud with our performances," said Pearce.

"We have three or four players who are extremely versatile and can play in a number of positions.

"We also have a young squad with the players such as [Fabrice] Muamba, [Lee] Cattermole, [Kieran] Gibbs, [Danny] Welbeck and Rodwell all being available for the next campaign, so this experience will be vital for them."

No Jimmy Vaughan either, though thats probably a good thing!

I kind of hope Rodders doesnt develop into a centre half, i enjoyed his display at the weekend so much.

He does doesnt he. He is also a tramendous athleate (box-box), and his quality, range and vision of passing is superb. He always seems to get at least one chance in a game aswell cant be luck.

He looks like the most natural footballer ive seen in many year, certainly at Everton.

Pace, strength, passing ability, good with either foot and solid in the tackle.

He has all the attributes needed for the role. If he adds a bit of agression and positional sense to his game he'll be the perfect partner for Mikel Arteta.
