Here is a breakdown of shots on target this season against Pickford:
Spurs had 5, one he saved well with his feet, one was a good stop on Alli, the other three were very easy.
West Brom had 4. Two went in. One was more or less right at him from a tightish angle at the start and the other was from further out than the two that went in.
Palace had 1. It went in. Probably not savable but a header from that range coming in from that far out is questionable commanding of the box.
Brighton had 3. Two went in. The one that didn't was a scuffed volley that anyone above u12 level would have caught and directly led to a goal.
So Pickford has so far saved 8 of 13 shots on target which on the surface is perfectly fine. But when you dig deeper he has essentially made two useful saves on 7 opportunities. It isn't good enough. He's conceded 3 times outside the box already. Not good enough. He's made a massive blunder for a goal already (without even factoring in the cup games) which is also not good enough. Every ball into the 6 yard box is a crisis because he doesn't deal with them confidently or straightforwardly ever. Not good enough.
It doesn't matter who it is we are bringing in, he's going to play matches.
