Just went through a red light cos some absolute tool was speeding up behind me, and i was flashed by a roadside camera.

I accept the fact i was wrong, but do i get points and a fine?

Anyone?

just changed the rules i think mate, you can go on a speed awareness course about £120 if you dont want the points if not you will get a few.

Nice one mate. Think i'll probably do that, i can't be bothered explaining i was trying to get to work on time/avoid white van man behind me, this seems less ballache.

I think the rule change applies only to speeding and not to red light jumping
The link posted does say mitigating circumstances, did the tool behind you go thru on red as well? If so then he'll be in the picture as well and you could say you didnt feel safe with some idiot behind you

not sure sid but i think it does as its an awareness course, i could be wrong like. looks like a £60 fine and three points is the norm

The awareness course is only for speed cameras, and only if you're going a little bit over the limit. I went through a speed cam at 45 when it was a 30 two months ago and was told I had to take the 3 points and fine.

Unfortunately the police see running red lights as a bit more serious, you'll just have to take the points and fine I reckon.

you also have to disclose ALL points to your insurance nowadays (upto 5 and you didn't need to inform them), and 3 little points will bump up your insurance, it did mine anyway and they were the 1st in 20 years (36mph in a 30).

Ha i went through a red light by accident last night lol,i was stoped at the lights and got bloody cramp and shot forward by about 5 yards with the pain,i was then stuck in the middle of the road [and had no choice but to carry on as i would have blocked traffic or been hit if there was any cars around]-the only camera were them ones that are way above the road and it was facing the wrong way so i am ok i think]-lucky i have no points etc in 5 years despite me always going way above some speed limits which i know is bad

Similar happened to me years ago. However, the guy was so close to my bumper that the camera could only have got the van as those cameras only ever got the back of the car.

Same thing happened just before Christmas, tried to argue was dangerous to stop, but no use. Got offered 3 points and a fine of £60 or 3 hour awareness course at £79 and no points/fine.

if you were going less than 10% + 6 mph over the limit you can do the course if you havent already done a course in the last 5 years. Not every county is signed up on the scheme though.

Dont no how true it is,just something i heard. Did the camera flash once or twice? If once you might have got away with it. If twice then your done! Not every camera records incidents! Hope its once and you get away with it mate!

That, exactly. You might not have been snapped. They can't afford to put a camera in every box so they rotate them but leave the boxes up for the psychological effect....so while you might get the notification in the mail, you might not.
