RIP Neil Armstrong

When you consider he, and others, were prepared to undergo great risks travelling a quarter of a million miles. In a contraption designed with a ruler and pencil, and using computers with less power than my laptop..It's astounding. Would they make it to the moon and back ?..Only one way to find out

RIP Mr Armstrong

going into space in the 60's must have been seat of the pants stuff.

landing on the moon, going for a walk and then flying back to earth, avoiding being burnt up in the atmosphere and landing safely.

True Guts

Must have been some nerves throughout that adventure.

RIP and when my kids are old enough, I'll tell them about your amazing courage and what was achieved in the name of mankind

that (edit) 1202 alarm story is astonishing in itself

RIP Neil, terribly sad news but people will still know your name in a thousand years time.

Trivia the other night.. the question was how many Men that have been on the Moon are still alive. We all thought he was dead!

RIP to an Icon of our time.

The bravery involved was astounding. Don't forget, they knew there was no guarantee they'd make it back.

I'd dare say he was probably one of the bravest men on, or off, the planet.

Absolutely this. He had nerves of steel, Armstrong. The story about him manually piloting the lunar module to a safe moon landing spot with only 20 seconds of fuel remaining is heart-stopping. Everyone at mission control had their hearts in their mouths but Armstrong (and Aldrin, to be fair) never broke a sweat.

I can heartily recommend this book, by the way.

Requiscat in pace, Neil Armstrong. I remember looking up at you on the moon when I was 5 years old. I remember it like yesterday, you and Buzz right up there on the moon. I won't ever forget it.

May he rest in peace. A true gentleman and hero. I must say I am equally inspired by his life after the lunar landing. Rather than chasing money and fame that would have surely been waiting for him, he humbly taught others. This humility was the reason he was chosen by NASA, they knew he would experience it all with class and grace. And they were 100% correct.
