That's really not how negotiations work in any walk of life.

Palace set Zaha's price high and no club was prepared to go near it. In fact, the only clubs that were interested enough to make serious offers were us and Arsenal. Arsenal offered around half the figure Palace wanted and we offered around £60m IIRC. In neither case, Zaha was able to get Palace to adjust their valuation. Part of that, in my opinion, is because we weren't THAT interested and I don't think Arsenal were either (having already lined up Pepe who, again, is younger and has a higher ceiling than Zaha, for the same price).

We can set our valuation at £500m if we want, it doesn't really matter. Once a player decides they want out and starts making public statements to the press saying as much, and you have elite clubs who REALLY want them, the move happens almost 100% of the time. If the selling club doesn't want the player to leave, it becomes a case of not wanting to keep an unhappy, potentially disruptive player who will naturally not deliver their best Football while unsettled.

Well it is how negotiations work if you have someone in charge who has a clue what they are doing.

the days are gone of the "smaller" teams bowing down to the elite teams taking their players, sky money means teams do not need to sell so again richarlison is worth what he think hes worth, if we set a 200m valuation on him and no team who wants him come nears that I don't expect him to be sold

zaha wanted to go, handed in a request and he's still at palace

we weren't that interested in zaha? mate we offered 60m+ for him, of course we was interested hahahaha

You're simply not taking into account the current market.

Sure, is he actually worth £80m? No, because nobody is.

But he's worth that to us, because of all the things I listed in my other post, at the very least.
I think it all depends, to a degree, on what the buyer thinks as well.

Whenever a players thread is active like this on an international bore fest, ermm sorry , break I assume they've been crocked.

Nervous wreck here.

I don't think we'll agree on this one mate. I don't believe Football works that way. If the player wanI'm not disputing that we were interested, but I don't think we were that interested. We could have had him at £70m, but weren't prepared to go any higher than £60m, which to me makes me think it was just posturing from the club to raise the profile of the club - "Look at us making massive bids for good players who the other top teams want too!". I don't believe we were ever seriously interested to get the deal done.

Also, if Zaha had stomped his feet enough, he would have got his move. Problem was, I just don't think he represented good value for us, Arsenal or any of the big European clubs at £60m, let alone £80m. There are better uses of money than Zaha, which is why in the end he knuckled down and stayed at Palace.

In all fairness mate, Zaha just doesn't produce the numbers to get a big bid from a top team. Richarlinson got 13 in the league last season, is about 6 years younger than Zaha and if he continues to improve and score say 15+ goals it's only a matter of time until the top clubs start to take notice of him. His age is very important as well.

I think someone will pay £100million if his trajectory continues.

I somewhat agree with the point your making, however Zaha has contributed 20 goals and assists in an awful Palace team last season. That's in the same bracket as Eriksen and Sane and more than Son and Firmino. He's a cracking player, I just don't think he represents good value at £80m at his age, which is why it wouldn't surprise me if Richarlison went for the exact valuation you quoted there, £100m - assuming his trajectory continues.

Minor nit pick but Zaha contributed 10 goals and 5 assists. Only 5 players in the last 3 years have had a combined goals and assists of 20 or greater.

I don't think it's a case of trying to sell our best players, it's just being realistic that their ambitions may outpace our ability to deliver on them. If we can't give Richarlison CL Football soon and he's performing at a level that attracts the elite, we might not have much say in the matter.

Richarlison is in the Brazil squad. He's seeing his teammates, to a man, winning league titles and european cups and probably coming to the national team and talking about it all. He's every bit as good as them and wouldn't look out of place in the Champions League right now. The lad will 100% be itching for success and he's started this season strongly.

Eventually it will just be a question from him and his agent of 'how ambitious are Everton right now?'. Hopefully we have Europa League Football and a cup in the bag, breathing down the necks of the top four, by the time that question is asked.

Loads of clubs will come and pay £80-£100m for him without hesitation.

No chance Richarlison goes for more than Joao Felix and Mbappe. Unless he has a breakout season this year and clears 20 goals, which is entirely possible, he'll go for circa £80-100m i'd wager, the top end of which is what Hazard went for with 12 months remaining on his contract. That sounds about right to me.

A factor in the price that we've not considered is the manner in which Richarlison may be prepared to agitate to get his move. We've seen Neymar and Coutinho throw tantrums and refuse to play in recent years, I certainly wouldn't put it past him to use similar tactics, which puts us in a difficult position.
Felix went for about 120mil and from a weak Portuguese league. Obviously he’s a hell of a talent to go fir that type of money. And when sold on, he will probably go for 250/300mil

Mbappe cost 140mil roughly 2years ago, that’s like 200 now and again will cost a fortune when/if sold on.

They are seen as the 2 best under 21 players in world football.

Richarlison while I don’t think he will ever reach their level, he has been playing in the toughest league in the world, and done better each season.
When you consider Zaha last season for the first time in his career got double figure goals (10) still less than Richarlison in his second season at 21.

When the rumours of Pepe moving to England, and I kept reading he got 22 last season. I didn’t realise until after he signed for Arsenal that 9 were pens. So 13 goals in the french league is nothing special and he’s 2 yrs older.

Also Hazard only wanted Madrid, so they had Chelsea by the proverbial’s. I’m still surprised they spent 130mil with Add ons for a player they could have had for free next summer.

Richarlison will probably leave in the next 2yrs if we don’t get champions league, or at least be close to challenging. But it won’t be for less than a 100mil also you need to filter in, how the big Spanish clubs love to get Brazilian superstars in their team.

A long post to ultimately agree with the figure I suggested - around £100m.

You said 80 to 100 I said over a 100. You could mean 80 I could mean 150. So not quite the same.

He won’t go for what them 2 will go for in the future, but will go for roughly the same as felix. If he gets over 20 goals, then you’re are talking 150mil no problem. What barca paid for Coutinho & they paid 100 for dembele. What did Atletico pay for Lamar? And he got 3 goals for them last season.
