Just to add to this, I lived in Singapore for 8 years, and in 2007 was lucky enough to have Tim Cahill agree to spend an evening with the local Supporters Club (he was there on Aus duty, even though he was still recovering from the first metatarsal injury). The Football Federation Australia tried everything to stop it happening as they were preparing for their debut in the ASEAN Cup (understandable) but Tim was adamant.
Anyway we had a venue (manager was Aussie so no charge) and emailed the details out. A couple of days before the FFA told me there was a change of plan and he wasn't available the planned night, but 24 hours later (knowing full well we'd likely cancel). I said "Ok", and we sent round the update. Despite all the last minute mucking around, we still had the place packed out, with fans who'd flown in from Indonesia and Malaysia (I had no idea some of them subscribed to the Singapore mail-list).
Point is some of these Asian fans are amazing. All their colleagues / friends support RS, Man U (not so much now), Chelsea, Man City (probably used to support Utd) etc. A lot of these guys have supported us through thin and thinner for years. Their life's ambition is to save up and make their pilgrimage to their mecca, and see Everton play.
Oh, and to no-one's surprise, Tim Cahill was an absolute star on the night. Articulate, funny and stayed far longer than we'd agreed with FFA. Everyone who wanted autographs and photos got one. The only ones disappointed was the Singapore's Next Top Model candidates who nabbed the front row off a bunch of kids (making them sit on the floor) and blatantly offered Tim their phone numbers afterwards (he politely declined).
Sorry to go OT!
