I see that the new style has the reputation scale in the top, right hand corner of each post.

If any of you have been on a Big Soccer forum, you know that this feature is used religiously.

Great way to let someone know what you think of their specific post, either good or bad. That person will accumulate reputation "points" based on the quality (or lack thereof) of their posts and what the general forum population thinks.

Nice little feature.

You can view your reputation points and see what comments, if any, that the person giving you the reputation has typed.

I'll use it and I'll be curious to see if any other posters start to use it more frequently.

(Edit: Looking at my User CP, it shows the posts I've received reputation and you can click on the post to see what post it was. It doesn't show who gave you the reputation points though.)

I am sure if we remember to plug it it will get more use. I have tried a couple of times in the past (yes, rep has alway been on this forum) and the usage has been intermittent at best.

I like it as it's a good way to quickly let someone know you thought highly of their comments in a specific post (or not too highly depending upon what they said.)

I'm sure old Keith Shabs rep would have quickly gone down hill.

I believe if you get enough "negative" reputation, you get a "yellow card" (for all to see) which lets the poster know that they need to be on their best behavior.

A red card would be a banning (temporary or otherwise).

The admins would decide on the cards but overall, it's a great way to let the forum kind of police itself on what is acceptable discourse and what is out of bounds.

Well, they way I see it is a way for users to gauge collectively what they think of another user. Like if somebody posted negative stuff all day long (a la toffeeweb) and all the positive guys gave -ve rep and vice versa it wouldn't be grounds for a warning. That would be the realm of the mods and admin dudes.

Is there a way for the reputation to be displayed in the post itself? On my forum we have karma and it's displayed alongside each members name when they make a post, as well as in their profile. If it were displayed so visibly I'm sure it would be used much more. As it is the scales symbol is a bit ambiguous.

i tried to use it once, i 'plussed' everyone on the forum and still it told me i had to 'spread more reputation around before i could + someone twice'

i then gave up.
