Hi All,

With regret, I've disabled the reputation system.

Unfortunately, despite best efforts to minimise potential abuse (Negative Rep prompting a moderator alert) - we have had a handful of absolute idiots abusing the system. Those idiots will shortly find themselves permanently banned for being malicious, misrepresenting our community and wasting our time.

The reputation system will be revamped and back shortly.

You see, every lid has their own rep stories. Some beautiful, some tragic but without it the place will be duller. Sure there will probably be a sanitised replacement but it won't be the rep you know and love. Its the currency of GOT. A true capitalist success story (going after Bill and Bruce's support here) that the forum will be dull without. When you got one of them little notifications it was a lucky dip. Some would make you feel sound and others would snide you but it energised the place.

If scientists studied the history of GOT and looked for the Higgs Boson it would be rep.

The vast majority wanted all in and a few dissenting voices have took it away. Apart from Nigel and Leccy who are sound.

This is the Cyprus taxation moment for GOT. Reverse the decision before its too late.

Never saw the need to provide a facility that was always open to abuse not all posters want to indulge in the chit chat beyond subjects Everton and that doesn't mean they should be attacked - unfortunately this happens.

I've commented on this before and for every anonymous snide remark I get as a result I get a signed "well said" comment from those equally as mystified by the whole business.

My proposal would be a no comment green points allocation only to show your love there is not a single reason to surreptitiously be negative to a fellow evertonian, not a one.

If people don't agree with opinion that's what the main board is for - debate within the rules (actually it's the same even if you agree).

For those whom popularity is important they can have a massive green line under their name and for those who aren't arsed in the slightest stalking will cease.

This site will be 1000% better if people can't get round the rules of decency and respect.

Suspecting this won't happen and in the event of some kind of "negative" system being re-introduced - anonymity absolutely encourages the snide and bad feeling and shouldn't be allowed.

An instantaneous report button as per the main board would be a necessity - I could never report my stalkers beyond sending PMs and emails and after a while you can't be arsed.

Great day for the site entirety not just the few.

I remember Pomp being in the red, so we had a campaign to get him green, within 5 posts he was fully green. The lid was made up

Wonderful days

Shame if people were abusing it, if someone makes a good point and you want to let them know, you now have to write on the thread and it looks a bit cumbersome (much like this post).

Other than having some green or red dots near your username, is there any actual functionality attached to reputation?

When a negative rep was left it created a notification for mods, so in that sense it was a facility to alert us to bad (or unpopular) things.

I suspect some form of rep will be installed to replace what went before, and I agree that it was nice to have a 'currency' of approval on here.

If people used it well then it would I suspect still be in place. Sadly there seemed to be an increase of people using it to firebomb newbies with negs or leave snidey comments alongside their rep.

We have to remember that whilst gold members can see who left rep, many cannot, so many were receiving comments from people they couldn't identify.

It all kinda created a bit of an undercurrent that wasn't helping the harmony of the forum (imo).

Obviously it's great, and indeed natural, that we have a core membership that know each other inside out, but we also need to make sure the place is welcoming to newcomers.

Surely part of the reason you pay to upgrade

Sure, but I think we have to appreciate that newer members will want to feel at home here before shelling out some cash. If they're getting anonymous negs it's unlikely to help convince them to stay.

Of course some may be warranted, but we've been seeing an increase in silly neg comments left simply for disagreeing.
