Remembering Bill Kenwright

^^^^ absolutely this!

Let’s be honest, if he hadn’t passed away we’d still be stuck with him.
100% correct. There's absolutely no way he'd have just gone away. He would've outright sabotaged any potential takeover where he wasn't guaranteed at least some form of position that would've placated his obscenely inflated ego. The old narcissist almost certainly believed that the club simply couldn't exist without him.

Pretty sure that this thread and Bill Kenwright's death are independent events.
Well that's just where I obviously difffer from other posters, no matter what i think of the man, this thread was created for the remembrance of his death..

To me that's where you either hold your anger for another thread or just don't enter it..

But thats just me, so i will remove myself from it...

Up to you but I'd rather be celebrating all those trophies and having a world class football team to watch. We would still be us and probably troll the owners harder than most.
Well winning is pointless if its done with a 'cheat code' . No satisfaction winning that way. Not to mention I'd find it abhorrent our beautiful club being used as a front for sportwashing and covering up human rights abuses. But hey ho!

He’s a decisive figure, but I always believed that he wanted the best for the club.

I think he was manipulated by some very bad people and he was a victim of unfortunate circumstances.

I’m sad he didn’t see the stadium finished, I know he was integral in its development. If the Ukraine war didn’t happen, if a more professional investor had worked with him or if we had got Kings Dock…

IF…

He loved the club

Almost every club in modern in football who wins trophies does it with a cheat code. Since the start of the PL the only club to win it without spending crazy, dirty money is Leicester. Everyone else did the same thing. Man Utd and Arsenal and Chelsea where buying the league long before City won the lottery. Their league titles are no more dirty then Blackburn's.

There's a massive difference between sovereign wealth and a local business man's wealth pouring money into the club he's supported all his life. The likes of Man Utd, RS and Arsenal will always spend big as they generate huge income. Plus Man Utds success had a lot to do with their class of 92 youth intake which made it an earned success. Pumping billions into a club whilst cheating the rules is a lot different than the other successful clubs apart from Chelsea when they got Abramovich as owner. Its okay to have a different opinion but I'm grateful Bill didn't sell to the UAE as if he did (and there's no concrete evidence that he turned them down) I'd no longer have a club to support as I could never happy clap a sport washing fronted enterprise where Everton has been devalued for political reasons

TBF I think him loving the club was a big part of the problem.

We are all of us creatures of our ego, and the more we are invested in a thing the more likely we are to do what we think is the best for it; this of course brings us into conflict with other people who have their own views on what they know what is best. Generally the more power someone has, the more likely we are to confuse what they say with what is right and his power was such that he got to have the decisive say on too many occasions.

The ability to step back and actually work out what - and who - is actually right including when they dismiss themselves is an ability that few possess, sadly.

In that I think the great tragedy of his time at Everton was that he was never able to recognize that things could be done better, as they were (and have been) after he passed away.

I`d hate to see what would have happened to us if he hadn`t loved the club. I suppose he loved the club in the same way that the bloke loves his wife but comes home every evening and smacks her around because he loves her so much.
