Refs mistakes I can live with, it's the studio wet wipes with the benefit of replays who claim.a penalty is/isn't a penalty or an offside is or isn't despite it beeing glaringly obvious. Not just our games but any team outside the sky elect.

All refs have some bias because they are human, but the PL refs do favor the Top 6 and blatantly sometimes.

I watch a lot of La Liga matches and there is some favoritism towards Barca and RM plus Atletico a bit, but the refs are not afraid to give out cards to Messi and Ronaldo or the other top players when they cross the line.

And I don't have to yell at the TV screen watching La Liga matches like I have to when watching PL ones! haha

The majority of them grew up as Liverpool or United fans. Simple as that. All this ‘I support Altrincham/Tranmere’ nonsense does anyone really believe it? That a man so interested in football that he becomes a top flight referee has no allegiance to any premier league team whatsoever? The solution for me is to rotate European refs around so that foreign refs are refereeing English games too and vice versa. Mind you half of them probably grew up supporting that lot too.

Mostly it's just incompetence but I do think there is a tendency to give certain clubs the benefit of the doubt. It's more a natural thing than anything. The NBA tends to give more fouls to established players than rookies. NFL receivers get more calls if they're generally better players. I guess it's just a subconscious thing but it does make the need for VAR greater.

One day games will be reffed by some sort of AI using data accumulated over thousands of games. Players will wear sensors and microphones to assist the AI ref. This is just my prediction.

I think we will start getting refs from overseas, why do they all have to be English? Biggest league in the world, loads of money, rules are rules, we can afford to get good ones from overseas.... just not Norway please

Aye, and there's the rub. Technology/VAR isn't going to provide some silver bullet if it's administered/adjudicated by non-disinterested arbiters.

Atkinson at the weekend summed up the standard of refs now,player scores a goal in the 6 yard box,pulls his shirt off,runs to the crowd followed by his team mates,one whos waving said shirt above his head and the ref didnt notice it,the same ref who is sipposed to notice whether there is contact between players

Actually thought Carragher's commentary was alright yesterday. It's Souness who chats shabbite more often than not and Jamie Redknapp is just utterly useless.

I agree, even tho he’s a rs, Carragher is a decent pundit, and I usually dont think he’s painting us negativly based on bias.
